Anyone tried these new boxes? I have just recieved delivery of the 7'' x 4'' slit foam/compartment Scierra fly box. My first impression was that it seemed slightly heavy although i presume this is due to the vaccuum locking system, which would keep all flies dry and safe if dropped in the water. The rubber seal does not seem to be fixed in properly although maybe its designed this way for a purpose? The foam on the inside seems of good quality and is capable of holding of holding over 200 flies. The outer hinging seems very sturdy and well protected. The inner hinging on the compartments are spring loaded and i cant open any of them. I had to prize them open with a spoon. Not very convenient if you had cold fingers on a river. This is ,in my opinion, a major fault and for this reason i shall be returning this product to the retailer. Over all i think its a good box apart from the compartment locks. So any views guys?
Cheers

From what you say I think I shall give them a miss. Plenty others out there without "any faults" Tight Lines

C & F are superb boxes. I have three of them. Highly recommended, but pricey.

kypemeister showed me his C&F He is a right tackle tart. Not overly impressed with the standard box. Bit flimsy/light for my liking & far too dear for what it is. The waterproof version with the rubber seal is far better constructed, but still a pretty penny for what after all is a plastic box. Have a look at the new Wheatley plastic. I have one & they are very good value for money & robustly made too. Tight Lines www.richardwheatley.com/acatalog/Malvern_Range.html

Cheers highlander, I already have a c&f box which i swear by. Just thought i'd try out the scierra one as it is bit cheaper and looks to do the same job. Its the slit foam i like. I contacted john norris and they seem to think its just one faulty box. I hope so. Will post when i get a replacement and let you know how it is.
Thanks again

nice to get reports on new tackle, Get a bit fed up with the same old ones getting touted a bout. Look forward to hear how the "New box" shapes up. All the main tackle suppliers are at it now. ie offer a full range of goodies ,rods reels, bags clothing, waders & now fly boxes. Some anglers are like walking adverts now adays. But sometimes they get it wrong & junk is junk no matter whose name is on it. Tight Lines

Had a look at the Scierra boxes in John Norris on the way home today, got to say I was quite impressed with them. I'd certainly pick them over C&F boxes, but then I just do not like C&F boxes

I reckon you cant beat " Fox Boxes" Depending on where you purchase them ,good value for money and they hold around a hundred and twenty flies.

I got a YGA version of the slit foam waterproof ones which was good value at less than a tenner but a little small for my use.
Is there anywhere I can see the Scierra ones on the web ? The Fox boxes are good for lures but not right for buzzers and nymphs IMO.

The new Scierra boxes are very good, I have two - (upgraded from Okuma ones that slice your fingers open on the sharp edges).
Not sure why anyone likes the fox boxes, they are ugly, they sink if you drop them in the water, and your flies fall out at regular intervals. Terrible boxes.

Thanks for the pic. The little one looks like the YGA model. How big is the large one ?

Recieved replacement fly box the other day and was very dissapointed. Once again the compartments are extremely difficult to open( almost broke nails on both thumbs) and once again the rubber seal is not secured very well. Have returned box again to john norris and i will be sending scierra an email to inform them. Thumbs down as far as im concerned. Will look toward c&f slit foam compartment box now and fork out the extra tenner. rrw35 do the c&f compartments have individual magnetic compartment covers?
