The new Scierra boxes are very good, I have two - (upgraded from Okuma ones that slice your fingers open on the sharp edges). Not sure why anyone likes the fox boxes, they are ugly, they sink if you drop them in the water, and your flies fall out at regular intervals. Terrible boxes. Kev. hear hear - you forgot heavy too. for expensive boxes its c&f every time - for cheap the old leeda box is hard to beat.

ive an old fox box that is hidden away. First time i opened it in wind i lost a dozen flies. bummer. its lucky im such a hoarder or it would be in the bin!!! lol. I took out the dodgy fly holding pieces and glued in some thin foam. Will fill it with some flies and give it to my boy so at least he will get some use out of it. At least the foam will allow him to store smaller flies than the original.
Cheers

I find that squeezing the fly holding 'jaws' of a Fox Box with a pliers helps them grip again.

Thats interseting mark. I think being the hoarder i am, that i will probably still have those inserts somewhere. Hmmm. . . thats such an obvious solution and im so blind. Cheers.

The Scierra/Lureflash boxes are C & F copies, nearly as good and just as heavy. The large sizes weigh a tonne! I prefer Wheatley Alloy, particularly the small 3x2 boxes, you can group selections in them, they float and ten of them will still weigh a lot less than a single Large C & F.

Lo all, Just my 2 bobs worth I got one of each the fully slatted one and the one with compartments. You are right tweed broke a few nails on the one with the compartments trying to prise them open. Solution, I took a small file that I use to sharpen my hooks and just filed the catch on the lid of each compartment gently and tried until I was happy with the amount of pressure required to open the lids. Warning I am not telling you to do this as this will probably void any warranty you have on the products and anythign you do like this is of your own undertaking. I can only tell you what I have done, now the box lids open and close great. DO NOT GO BATTERING INTO THIS AND FILE LIKE MAD a wee bit at a time Superb Boxes for the money if you are happy to do a little work. The slatted one is great different sizes of slatts for different types of flies. Cheers Dave

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! Not even two weeks old and both are coming to pieces. The waterproof seal in the compartment box keeps coming out and the small slit rows in the other came out after i put a couple of flies in. We all occasionally buy "Friday afternoon" produced goods but these boxes are very poorly made, even for the money. Stick with C&F or Fox.

I was interested to see these boxes in Norris after reading a bit of this thread, only to find I couldn't actually open the compartments (not a box for nail biters! )

My favourite fly-box is probably one called a 'Danica' I got from the old GAC a few years back. A cheap foam-lined plastic job, but nice and deep, robust and with ventilation holes along a strip on the lid, which might not be good news if you drop it in the water, but I try not to let that happen. Never seen them since, anyone know a supplier?
I like the C&F, a bit fiddly but keeps my dries and emergers neat and in good nick.
Don't like the fox box; it's too shallow and leaves my bushy bumbles and palmers rather flattened. And one of the hinges has fallen out, so that's that box 'oot the windae'.
Might replace it with another C&F, but I still think 15 quid is a bit steep for a simple flybox. Trouble is, all the other ones I've looked at are either too wee, too big, too shallow or too elaborate. There's a gap in the market out there, I reckon.

I emailed Scierras product manager and got no reply. Hewyl Morgan is next. Davers idea is great but the point is, we,as anglers , deserve to be offered products that are efficient, if not super efficient. Does hewyl morgan have bionic fingers and carry tubes of super glue in his waistcoat pocket? It would only be a matter of time with these boxes( im assuming the smaller one is the same) before the sealing rubber was lost completely. We could probably super glue the seal on but thats the whole point. It must have been some handyman type who field tested them. Sad, but sorry Scierra, thumbs down. The annoying thing is, i honestly liked the box. I have returned both boxes to JN and expect a full refund. Wonder if JN will return them to Scierra or sell them onto another weak fingered individual. Hmmm.
