Hello all, What follows is, currently, only an idea. I am prospecting! Slowly but surely there seems to be a tradition growing around occasional social events on the reservoirs. Chris deserves massive congratulations for this – I for one am really looking forwards to the next meeting at Eyebrook, the Thornton bash having been great fun. My thought is whether or not there is any support for a similar event on the rivers. I realise that this is quite different for a number of reasons – principally around the accessibilty and logistics of river fishing. It is not as sociable as sitting in a boat! However it is clear that a number of us enjoy our river fishing and I think it would be great to have a river social. My current thought is that, if we can get a critical mass, is to see if I can approach Richard Slocock and see if we can arrange something on either/or the Frome or the Piddle next year, probably outside of the peak Mayfly season. If you feel that this may be of interest to you, why not have a look at this website- www.goflyfishing.co.ukThen if you are interested please let me know. If I get a dozen or so positive responses I will get the ball rolling. Cheers Ben

Hi Ben,
Those prices are pretty retrictive for many folks on the forum. I have to admit that paying £50 a day to fish any river brings me out in a sweat.
For a fiver a day you could get access to 9 miles of the River Swale and there's a campsite as a base.
I'm sure there must be other rivers out there that cost a lot lss too.
Cheers, Carl

There's lots of the Wye & Usk that you can fish on a day ticket, between £10 & £15 I think.
The Wye & Usk Foundation, website too.

Yes it would be cost that would hold me back Wherever it was would also involve quite a travel for me too I guess, so that cost has to be taken into account as well

Hello again all,
I suspected that the price may be an issue. however if you look at mid July onwards you would be paying c. £30/day for most of the beats which is comparable to many DT waters. Also remember Chris has been successful in negotiating discounts in the past - I would hope to emulate him!
However I agree that it would be sensible to get the most competitively priced fishing available. And I am going to be parochial here - I would like it to be nearish to home. Which puts me in mind of the Westcountry and the Angling 2000 scheme. I am sure that camping wouldn't be a problem in that part of the world.
Thanks all for your input - keep it coming.
Cheers
Ben

ben, why not fish this event on the wye, if so i would be able to get another 8 people to fish. the wye is a perfect river for this i think, cheap, very good fishing and plenty of room for 30 odd anglers. what dates are you looking at for this event??? cheers gitto ;D

wherever 'tiz, I'm well up for it. I'd suggest somewhere fairly central? All the suggestions thus far are alright by me. I'd particularly relish anywhere that there's a chance of a silver tourist!

Why not do a combined social next summer up here in Bonnie Scotchland?
We could base ourselves in one of te many campsites in the Lomond and Trossachs area. River bods can fish the Leven, Salmon by day Seatrout by night, and the rest of us could go to Menteith or another nearby stillwater.
GLA airport is very nearby and offers cheap flights from many parts of the UK. Prestwick is a bit further away, but still comfortably close.

I think there's mileage in the rivers idea, Wales has my vote, but I'll be up for a hampshire or dorset stream if that's the way the cookie crumbles. ClydeSiders idea is a good plan too... perhaps worthy of another thread?
