As a hardened smoker for some 34 years I am really chuffed to have given it up for just over 2 weeks now and feeling very positive about it. A huge part of the motivation came from a website called: www.whyquit.comOnce I understood the science of addiction the whole process became a little easier If I can do it anybody can!!

Well done Matey!
Just think - less time lighting up - more time fishing! ;D
(Also - more money for beer!)

A friend of mine joked, that now he's give up, he's cancelling his standing orders to cancer charities...
I hope he was joking..

I also packed it in 2 weeks ago after smoking for 28 years and apart from the odd craving in the morning I'm finding it fairly easy. Exactly. Most of the craving for cigs is psychological. The physical craving for nicotine isn't that bad and once you understand that it's fairily easy to quit, as you say.

I quit 15 years ago , what I saved in the first year paid for a fishing holiday in Sutherland .
Good luck .

Keep at it tuniwes. Wonder if the sewin will like your snakes even more now?
My heavily addicted primary school headmaster gave us a maths question. He asked the class to work out how much he would spend on cigarettes in his life time.
I never did start smoking.

Like Sandfly I quit about 15 years ago. Whilst I do not crave for a cigarette, i still have a hankering for one even after all these years. Guess it is much like a recovering alcoholic, one drink/cigarette & you are back on them. Still feel all the better for having stopped, not easy but I did it. Tight Lines

Thanks for this link. I've been struggling with quiting for almost a week and this sight has given me renewed determination.
Thanks again... for me, the timing was perfect!

It really is great to hear you guys are giving up the ciggs. There was another group that posted right around new years that was also giving up.
I hope you'll let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

We'll shovel that into the old idea hopper and let you know what grinds out the back side, Braveheart.
Thanks for all your help.

Hi
Seven weeks now - just about £500 saved. This is unbelievable. I still find it difficult though.
I'd love to hear how all the rest of you are getting on.
Bruce, didn't you stop over a year ago? did you crack it in the end.
Cheers
Stewart

That's really terrific though Stewart. Keep fighting it off for while longer and you'll be done with those ciggies for good.
Weren't there a couple of others who quit around New Years?

Thanks for the encouragement fellas, Thanks for this link. I've been struggling with quiting for almost a week and this sight has given me renewed determination. Thanks again... for me, the timing was perfect! Joe Keep at it Joe. I'm certain I'll never touch one again. I used to plan my life around smoking, midnight trips to the alnight garage, chainsmoke two just before going into work, watch the clock until smoke break. etc, etc, etc Once I accepted I was a nicotine addict and that I was doing all this just to feel normal, how non smokers feel all the time, the penny finally dropped. Won't be long now and I'll have saved enough money to buy a new rod!.

I quit on the last chime of Big Ben at New Year and haven't touched one since. Have found it suprisingly easy, but I'm a very strong willed person.
