You're not wrong there Jim in many ways. A lot of the older regular anglers though have so say witnessed a marked decline in the fishing over the past few years. I'm not complaining as I've had more fish than this time last year. Mind you could be something to do with the fact that I'm fishing three times a week ;D C.B

I am as disappointed as anyone at the poor start BUT it is far too early to start laying the blame at Bristol Waters door. It has been a cold spring, we are fishing very large waters and for me the very fact that they can be challenging is part of their appeal. Things have warmed up considerably this week and spring has finally 'sprung' in the Mendip Hills. Let wait a few weeks before jumping to conclusions. Allrounder ;D

Had a good few hours at Chew today. Several fish caught from Bank at Woodford and i heard North Shore was fishing well but ''Shoulder to Shoulder'' Several boats in front of the lodge were taking fish but down on the bottom. Very few fish moving after miday.
Yes there are fish in trhe lake, i think it has been a very slow start but going on what i saw today things are picking up.
Tight Lines All.

I thought I'd try an early start this morning (sunday) but when I got up and heard the rain on the conservatory roof I nearly went back to bed. The last thing I want at the moment is another uncomfortable session. But after spending half an hour debating with myself I finally decided to give it a go and I was on the North Shore by 6.30am. The rain had eased off so it wasn't too bad and the wind was light, although not for the first time it wasn't in the east as forecast but more towards the opposite direction! There were four other anglers there and one had a fish on as I arrived which is always encouraging. I decided to fish buzzers and Diawls Bachs and although I only saw one fish on the surface, there was a small hatch of buzzers at around 8pm and I managed to catch a small 1-6-0 rainbow on a brown buzzer which 'matched the hatch'. All the other anglers bar one had a fish each while I was there and one had two or three but the wind started blowing more on shore making casting progressively more difficult so I decided to try Wick. When I arrived at Wick there were two other anglers on the point so I got in half way between the point and the car park. The two anglers had a couple of pulls then a fish each at around 10am and just after I tightened into a 2 inch movement on the fly line to land a near 3lb fish on a size 14 Diawl Bach on the dropper. BY about 11.15am the wind started to pick up and - unbelievably! - it was blowing on to the shore again! The wind seems to follow me around Chew! Nymphing became more difficult so I decided to try the fast sinker/booby combination and this was how I got my last fish of the morning. I clipped the bank on the back cast and was stripping the line back in frustration to check the fly when the fish jumped on the end. This fish was another near 3lb fish but unfortunately it had quite bad cormorant damage which probably accounted for the rather poor fight. Then the rain started again so I decided to pack in just before noon. So all in all a much better session than of late and not before time! Allrounder ;D
