Fished North shore today , surprisingly not many others there at the start , about ten of us in all along the whole of north shore between picnic areas. The wind was coming from behind and from our left making life easier unfortunately the trout were not particularly eager to show themselves . The water was bloody freezing ,I had one small stockie early on ,on a green and black tadpole and intermediate line ,most people caught 1or two fish ,orange weighted lures were quite effective, I lost a better fish near the net on one .The water looked like it should of produced more sport but it was very ,very chilly which might of put them off.C.B came down for a chat ,I believe he will be returning tomorrow to fish. The boats at our end of the lake didnt appear to have any real sport ,I only saw one fish landed on a boat. I think the rest of the banks were also struggling as people started appearing around lunch time from various banks having had very little sport. As I was leaving at 2pm I was informed that Wick Green was starting to produce fish . If I thaw out in time I might return tomorrow Dipper

Well done on the fish dipper. Lets hope theres some more to follow........ Im going out tomorow after school. With an easterly wind coming over the north shore, i think woodford is my starting point. Bob hanford was on the radio thismorning being interviewed by a news reporter for BBC Bristol. They were out on the banks with the fishrmen having a chat! They may do it again for Blagdon on tusday! Have a listen from about 7:00 -8:00. Trout

Took another short trip out to the North Shore this morning in the snow showers and temp at 1 degree There was the odd fish coming out but nothing more. I was on the way to Barrow when I noticed that once again there was noone on Whalley bank at the Dam end so braving a due Easterly I flogged it there on a Di5 and a black booby to take a nice silver 2+lb Rainbow. Paul Evans and Westcountryboy were out on the ocean waves around the back of Denny towards Wick Green and at the time of writing WCB had a fish on a Diawl Bach fished on a Di5 I'm sure they'll add to this report tonight C.B

Mornin all, I've just recovered from an absolute belter of a day on Chew......... NOT! The boats were slow, positively stationary, worse ever opening day I've had since the Blagdon algae? 10 years or so ago. Started in Spring bay nowt, no pulls no follows, Wick Green Nowt, North Shore nowt, Denny Island Spit Nowt, Walley Bank nowt, then came the highlight of the day in Spring Bay my partner had a pluck and a swirl. Decided at 2.30 to thaw out the bones in the lodge. Couldn't summon the enthusiasm to go back out. I did hear of fish being caught along the reeds past Wick towards Herriots, more overwintered stuff and large Brownies than stockies! I was too bloody cold and the water had a brown tinge to it. More socks, more fleeces required!!!! I hope May is not this cold Cheers FOE

It has been a real slow start that's for sure. I guess we could all suggest reasons, the cold being the number one suspect. Although I can't help reading and re reading the "Stocks" opening weeks reports. It must be just as cold up there if not colder and yet some anglers were walking away with having 20 or more fish in a day. Does make me wonder what sort of a day we're going to experience next week at Blagdon Weather is still set bitterly cold C.B

I am just starting to get the feeling back in my fingers so if the words come out wrong then you know why. Well what a day. I was up at 6 am and looked out of the window to see snow falling When i arrived at chew there was still very light snow and the temp was around 1. With the wind which was coming from the northeast if felt like -5. Anyway i meet up with Paul who i must say is a spot on bloke and we had a breakfast to muster up the courage to get on the water. We headed over to wicks( first time fishing chew so don't know the areas very well) And drifted south. The fishing was tough to say the least and it was a fair while before we saw aneone hook a fish. I hooked and landed a stockie around 2lb on a daiwl bach and then nothing so we headed over the otherside of chew and first cast hooked a nice fish 2lb+ that was stuffed full of daphnia. I hooked this on a orange blob. We then went up to the lodge then north shore but did not have a touch or see anyone else hook a fish so for the last hour went back to wicks. Nothing pulled the lines so around 4.30 we headed back to the lodge. As a first imppresion i would have to say that chew will see me back there to give it another go but not on a day like today. Roll on the Blagdon social. TobyM

It's a bit daunting on a day like that Toby isn't it I reckon you did well to get two though Mate If the long range forecast from Metcheck is right the weather is set to break and warm up just in time for the Blagdon Social which is just as well for those camping C.B

Nice one WCB 2 fish isnt too bad at all in these conditions. It seems that most of the fish are being caught in the morning. I may have another go tomorow if the wind dies down, i dont think there's much chance of that though.
