I had hoped for a longer session this evening but by the time I stuck my net in the lakebed on the Nunnery bank facing Moreton Point it was 6pm. The wind was in a westerly direction and not only was it much stronger than I expected but it was much colder too. I started with the fast sinker and boobies but after 20 minutes or so I went over to an intermediate with a black boobie on the point and a Diawl Bach on the dropper. Well I only go one pull and you'll have to guess what it was .... Was it a nice Rainbow Trout? Nope! Was it a nice overwintered Brownie then? Guess again and remember ... this is the Allrounder we are talking about! ;D ;D ;D ;D OK... was it a Pike? YOU BETCHA! This old girl took pity on me and after a couple of powerful runs she was in the net! ;D ;D ;D She was duly weighed at 14-4-0 and was safely returned alive. What a fish! My best yet on a fly rod and I'm chuffed to bits! I carried on for another hour but packed in at 7.30pm as my hands were freezing. Allrounder ;D

I'm boat fishing Chew tomorrow (Saturday) any pointers?
Thought about trying deep spot off Woodford, then maybe the Dam??
Travelling up from Bournemouth, it really annoys me, I wanted to do a 1/2 a day a) because of travelling time b) because the fish probably wont come on until PM. im sure there will be loads of boats free, but they would not let me book a 1/2 day!
You'd think they would encourage people to travel up not rip them off for another £5 each, i'm d**n sure I will not be going home with a bag full of fish, so they won't make a loss!!
£30 petrol, £30 fishin, £30 beer (for internal heating), cant do that too often.

I think the rule is that you can't book half day boats in advance - they can only be booked on the day subject to availability - but to be honest that is a chance well worth taking at the moment because there are always boats left moored up. However, they have the Snowbee competition tomorrow on Chew and I'm not sure if this is bank and boat or bank only. To be honest the trout fishing is dire at the moment. I fished Nunnery by the Oak Trees tonight for a few hours and I never had a pull. The only other angler on the bank had a big overwintered cock rainbow which he returned but apart from that he didn't have anything either and he had been there all afternoon. I only saw one boat and that was anchored off Moreton probably to escape the cold wind That makes 5 trips to Chew and Blagdon over the last 8 days with just two pulls and two fish, including the pike, to show for it Allrounder ;D

Well at last Chew seems to be kicking off! I boat fished yesterday P.M. The Snowbee comp was on and there were crowds of boats off Wick and Nunnery, the cold Westerley wind was howling across so me and me mate being less Hardy than Snowbee decided to hide from the wind up Mortons. We had a good day, there was some mud kicked out fron the banks but further out the water was pretty clear and there were a few fish around. They seemed to be following up from deep water, taking at reasonable speed just before the surface, going for Viva colours. The boys over Wick (i was told) did well with 7 tops and a few 5s! At last nockins, when the comp boys were weighing in, we crept around to the dam where i managed to get a decent 4 1/2 Lb Brownie on a black Minkie!! Cold, but a good day, I will now look foward to fishing next Sunday with a bit more enthusiasum!! P.S: Despite cold & wind there were a couple of haches! Small white fluffy things (not up on me entomology).

HI Andy. When you say no boats available at Blagdon do you mean weekends There are usually plenty of midweek boats free. Allrounder is at Chew more than me and I'm sure he'll pick up on this and keep you posted. Have a good trip C.B
