I hooked this on a orange blob. TobyM Well I'm glad something can still be relied on! What a grueller these first few days have been! It sounds so bad that I'm even considering trying for some pike next time I go My first reaction is to blame the weather but as CB says, its been just as cold at Stocks if not colder yet that is doing OK. I think the only consolation is that unlike previous milder winters the cold has kept the buzzers well buried in the mud so hopefully we will get some decent hatches when the water warms up. Yep!
I met Allrounder by coinsedence on north shore, (the dam end).
I didn't stay long, but had a pull or maybe two, on a damsel nymph and a black boobie/tadpole.
Allrounder had one fish, and along the banks, two more were caught!
Im sure Allrounder will add somthing later.....

I had a short 3 hour session yesterday afternoon from 3pm to 6pm. North Shore was busy due to the favourable wind direction so I decided to have a look at Nunnery. However when I got there, the strong wind made it look almost unfishable from the shore so I decided to try Woodford instead. The wind at Woodford was left to right but very strong and cold. I decided on a fast sinker with boobies but after an hour of battling the elements without a pull I'd had enough so decided to have a look at the Walley Bank down by the Dam. This seemed fishable despite the wind but looking across to the North Shore I noted that numbers had thinned out considerably so I decided to go there instead. North Shore had been busy earlier and according to one person I met in the car park, fish had been caught so it sounded promising. Things looked up even more when I saw Trout tucked down into the first bay where he invited me to join him. ;D After a couple of casts I had a good pull on a black and green fritz booby inched across the bottom but I completely missed it as I was too busy talking to Trout. Then about 15 mins later I tightened into a series of taps which both Trout and I were convinced was a jack pike, due to the way it fought so I was delighted to find it was a 2lb stockie that took the green and black fritz boobie instead! ;D Trout went on at around 5.30pm and I gave it a bit longer but apart from some half hearted tugs on a tadpole, they werent really having it so I packed in at 6pm. Lets hope Blagdon does better on Tuesday. Allrounder ;D

I noticed quite a few people fishing north shore this morning as i drove past.
It was fairly bright, and warm so lets hope the water temp has gone up a bit!
The north shore of Blagdon looks fishable at the moment, i think the top end of north shore would be a bit more out of the wind.

CB All the web based weather sites are forecasting a dry day with 14 - 16mph East/North East winds and temperatures between 4 and 6 degrees on Tuesday While I would prefer a lighter wind , the whole of the North shore at Blagdon from Pegs to Butcombe should be fishable. If in doubt, just look for the red estate car and follow it! Allrounder ;D

C.B, I meant Butcome end, where the small social was last October. As Allrounder says, the whole of the north shore should be fishable though! Hmmm the BBC says -1 on tuesday..... I think the water at pegs may be up to the "ledge" as i call it. (the steep small bank you usually have to walk down to get to the water). Lets hope the water is up to the ledge, i reckon the deeper water might hold a few more fish. I think we should plant a tracker device on that red estate... ;D

Chew still appears to be suffering from a Brown Algal bloom although I can't be certain it isn't a silt tinge. The banks were very quiet today as expected with Blagdon opening. Wind was still Easterly and freezing C.B

As it was Mothers Day today the Boss told me that a morning session was out of the question but I managed to sneak in a short session this afternoon at Wick Green I arrived at 2pm in driving rain and a blustery wind to find three hardy souls braving the elements. I was told that the bank was full in the morning and it had fished very well with everyone catching fish but most called it a day when the rain arrived at noon. I started off in front of the car park on a fast sinker and a team of boobies but was surprised to find that it was quite snaggy so I moved along the bank to the bird hide but found that little better. One of the anglers said he had some fish earlier with an intermediate and a booby so I did the same. No more luck by the bird hide so I moved back up the bank near where I started. By now the wind was getting very strong but I managed one pull on a black chain bead marabou lure before this fellow grabbed a black and green boobie as I was hanging it prior to recasting .... ;D The Pike fought surprising well and I estimated it at between 3 and 4lb. I was dead chuffed to get it but I was disappointed by the reaction of the angler next to me. He told me he was surprised to see me safely return it as they should all be knocked on the head to prevent the water becoming full of pike. He went on to catch three rainbows while I was there although I didn't see the other anglers catch anything. I didn't get another pull and as the wind was now threatening to blow me off my feet I decided to call it a day. Here is a picture of the overflow at the dam to give you some idea of the current water level at Chew. Allrounder ;D
