Does anyone else have a jinx fly and if so what is it? I was reading a post in the tying section that reminded me that I have a jinx fly: I put on a Diawl Bach and catch absolutely nothing every time, even when everyone else says it's the only thing! Maybe I should just take 'um all out the box and feed them to the pedal bin

The only nymphs I can seem to catch on at all are a GRHE Copphead nymph, damsel and a PT nymph. Dawl Bach, olives, buzzers nothing. Last night I caught straight away on the copperhead, changed fly every so often for 2 hours, nothing. Put on the copperhead again and bang.

GRHE is the jinx for me. I have seen this fly praised in the magazines over the last 25 years as the must have fly. Never caught on it, and I have tried it many many times. Have enquired to many anglers what are you catching on, and when this dreaded fly is mentioned, I go off muttering. These good people must think I am a bit of a nut job. But, boy, does it wind me up! Gold ribbed hares ear, indeed!

for me its definately the clan chief - i can sit in the boat with my mate and he will be pulling them out on one - i have used them on and off for 10 years without a touch - no confidence at all - different flies for different guys!

Many years ago two of the most popular flies at Grafham were the Ivens Green and Brown Nymph and the Stick Fly with a fluorescent green tag or thorax. I caught plenty of fish on the former but, try as I might, I just couldn't get a thing on the Stick Fly.
Then one cloudy August morning I met one of the regulars on the dam hauling them out on the Stick Fly so I thought I would have to tie one on and persist with it come what may. As I recall, I ended up with a limit and the Stick fly became one of my 'go to' flies.
Another season I just couldn't do any good with the Green and Brown until one very hard evening late in the season when I tried it out of sheer desperation. Needless to say it caught my only fish of the session. In fact this fish wanted that fly so badly that I had to wait until I got home to retrieve the fly from the fish's throat. It was as if it was trying to tell me I should never have lost faith in this particular fly.
Can't say I use either of these flies today although they do command a nostalgic place in my fly box.

For me it has to be the Peter Ross.
I know this is a very popular fly for seatrout and browns, but in 23 years and counting of sometimes throwing it on a cast, i have never had a sniff.
Interesting thread though, one mans food and all that eh!!
