It depends on what sort of fishing you are looking to do, river, still water or Salt water. Its easy to suggest a line but more importantly is what you want it for. If you can answer that Q and then i think you will get some sensible suggestions becaause lines are made for specific types of fishing.

Just ordered a 7# clear intermediate. cheap at £18 + p&p. Can a line for less than 20 quid be that good. If so, then i'll try a floater too.If its bad, i'll give it to the missus to use.He He He

I agree the Barrio lines are brilliant, and the price of the lines is a real bonus. I've converted a few friends to them this season too. Mike Barrio also includes a wee hand written note with each line....i think that's a great touch in this era.

It is a fantastic line for the money, especially for nymph and dry fly work. However, it wont put out large flies, shot or polytips, without a bit of hinging, due to the long, fine front taper. From my experience for light flies/delicate presentation, the Barrio, Michael Evans or snowbee xs. If you need to punch out bigger flies, poly-tips, or into wind on bigger rivers and lakes, i would recommend the Sschoot slickstream, it will do all of this with no problem, without the hinging associated with lines with finer front tapers. The Evans and Slickstream are especially good for roll/switch casts. As all the above lines are made by Shakespeare, they have no memory and are slick and supple.

Does anyone know the head and taper lengths of the barrio line.

I think the head is about 33-35 ft, long front taper and thinnish running line.

I am also looking at a replacement line, a WF4F. Are the Barrio's really that good.

If the line is as good as they say, but you have an issue with it not turning over larger/heavier flies, you could always cut the head back a bit. You can keep trimming until you achieve the turnover you want.

Cutting the taper back to accommodate for larger fly presentation on such a short head is not really an idyllic solution when the line is not made for presenting larger flies. Lines are developed for specific tasks and presentation for those specific tasks so the line will never perform the way its supposed to. Not a good solution i think
