I have a Hardy Graphite 7ft #4. I think that I bought it new in the late 1970s or early 1980s. It's a really good rod.

Someone call for Sherlock ?
Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth. Arthur Conan Doyle
Send Hardy's an email - they will have a record of when the rod was made.

The rod should have a unique ID number on the butt section just above the handle. If you PM me it I will get you some details from Hardys for you

Dr Watson
It is just elementary!!!
You are right about the PM stuff
Is that the only number you have on the rod?
Will speak to my Hardy Rep tomorrow and get some details for you

As I said above, I'm pretty sure that I bought mine in the early 1980s - they made rods from graphite before they converted fully to carbon - I think. My guess at value is 70-100 quid.

Yes Dave, fair comment, I know it's the same but for some reason they called it graphite in those days. Give me a break - I'm an economist, the only advantage of which is knowing if I'm out of work, why I'm out of work!!!
What about my dates tho' - no one seems to say anything about those. I still think early 1980s, essentially because I still have one of them and Sewinman has just used it to good effect on the Wylye. I also think my valuation is not too far out for the rod mentioned. I'd probably get more for my 7 footer.

Cothi
I would say your valuation would be a bout right. Not great value in Hardy rods. Hardy reels are a different matter though!!
As for your dates, dont think you are that far out. Will hopefully get the exact date of this particular rod today
