I imagine that this has been discussed many times before but can anyone come up with a better format for the national comp for selecting the team to represent scotland? I have always found it a strange situation where you can win both your heats end up 19th in the final and you are out ,whereas you can be 30th or poss more in your heats, end up 17th in the final and you are in the team. Mathematically 1 and 1 plus 19 makes 21. 30 and say 19th in the heats 17th in the final and you are in the team. Mathematically it dont add up, 21 divided by 3 = 7. 66 divided by 3 =22. I know who I would choose.

I would go for that, i think along those lines myself many times i have won my prelims came in the top three at the lake regularly to do nothing on leven which is not that hard

I think the way the results have gone recently proves they are doing it right. Finishing first in the prelims against some inexperienced anglers is alot easier than qualifying in the top 18 in the final. And we all know you can land lucky and have an easy heat.

Doods
Let me know how you can get an easy heat and ill go for that one every time . You dont seem to mention anything about the semi's. A lot of good rods go out in every heat with even more in the final dont you think Loch Leven can sometimes be a bit of a lottery

Doods, Being Someone who has done both as you have mentioned more than anyone in the last 6 years in Scotland I agree with Camshy dont know what you mean by easy heats None are easy and as Camshy also said the Loch has been a bit of a lottery, but sometimes a thinking man's game which is what Scotland needs. There is no right and no wrong way, only way I see it is it is now harder to get to the final but easier to get in the team. Less people are going through on the heats but instead of a 18% chance in the final you now have a 30% chance almost. You would have more chance of getting into the world team as only 18 fishing it as I understand and 5 get into the team. Only 2 caps required and loads of time and money Rules me out Cheers Dave Downie PS Camshy hows yer dyed JC capes was George Happy ?

Ok so you want to change a system thats not broken WHY. As has been said by many Scotland are doing well. Dont try and fix whats not broken.
As for Leven being a lottery. Try fishing it more often. 90% of the guys who got through practised for the national both last year and the year before and were well rewarded for it, and I dont mean just 2 or 3 days before it. it takes weeks to sus leven out properly. Yes it costs time and money but if you want to be in the top team badly enough you have to make sacrifices.

Point taken Michael i just wish i had the time to practice as much as you say. I bet a lot of the leven regulars put in plenty of practice and they dont seem to get in the team regularly and they are all good anglers, not these inexperienced ones that Doods was talking about

I also know most of the people who represent scotland and think they do a grand job, the anglers that is.
