Hi All, and a very happy new year!
Hope I'm not opening a can of (apps') worms here, but just wondering how many qualifiers we have on this board for the 2005 troutmasters? I see from previous threads it could be dicey posting this in the competition section!! I got my badge for an early December 4.5lb'er. The average stockies at the lakes are about 1.5lb and all beautifully finned and near natuarlised. Any tips on the fishery qualifier would be useful too!
Cheers,
Cidertastic

cidertastic, don't see why it should cause any muddslinging, the folk who don't like comps should just stay out of this section, then the folks who do can blether away happily. i have two t'masters for last year 1 from L.O.M. the other from cowans law,if i have the chance i will fish the playoff heats.best of luck on the day with yours. jim ps,i'm fishing sutton bingham in may from the bank,do you know it, and if you do ,any advice ;D

Hi, Troutmasters is a decent wee comp. It gives the non hard core competitions anglers a chance to fish in a real comp. Daver is the man for info on this comp. Colin

No badges for me im afraid lol, thanks Colin. The reason is that I did not fish any of the smaller waters at all and went to the rives instead As Colin said it is a decent competition, with a bit of luck required to catch a big fish but from them on in it is not that easy. I have won the complete thing and came third overall also. But alas not much chance of becoming the first to win it twice as I prefer the rives now, mabye some lucky day at moffat or soemthing. Cheers and Happy New Year to you all Dave Downie (comin down with the virus) no river clyde for me tomorrow

I say it every year but the wee fisheries are just so convenient when you haven't got much rod hours.

ps,i'm fishing sutton bingham in may from the bank,do you know it, and if you do ,any advice ;D I concentrate on 3 areas. 1. The water directly in front of the lodge. 2. The 'Point' 10 mins walk from the lodge on the left. 3. The deeper water on the drop off from the dam on the right. Safe wading on the left bank, far too deep on the right! Often, a good cast is required to reach the fish and boats do tend to fare slightly better. Ivan at the lodge is really helpful regarding methods of the moment and productive areas, as are lots of the regulars. All the usuals work, but don't ignore the shallows/margins with a muddler for the early fry munchers. The over-wintered fish go nuts!! I didn't fish it last spring/summer as the water was really low, but I think through the really good management, the fishery hasn't suffered. Best of luck in the 'heats', and when I'm up at Loch Earn in the summer, I'll badger you for some tips!!

Family friends own some holiday cottages on the loch-side, and I visited last Feb. I swear I could hear the trout laughing as they rose; out of season and I was so far from my fishing rod. I vowed to return to fish the loch and hopefully a bit of running water in the area too. Is it the River Earn that runs down to / near Calander?

no, the wrong side of the loch, the river earn runs out of the east end of the loch at st fillans. the river that runs through callender is the teith, good salmon s-trout.up-stream from callender the river splits ,and the main river is the lenny .up to loch lubnaig, good early salmon fishing. above lubnaig at stathyre the river becomes the balvaig, up to loch voil.i will pm you later as i'm of grayling fishing on the earn
