Nice idea Allrounder, and probably a bit tongue in cheek methinks! Something like the new motor racing thingy where all the cars are the same and it's the operatives that make the difference. I can't see the selection box of flies being practical. Who would tie, and provide, all the flies and what happens if you lose them and run out of a particular pattern? Who would decide what patterns are to be used? There would also be a cost implication. Workable? Probably not! Completely mad? Probably yes! ;D Good try mate! Fatbloke

Thought it might be a bit off the wall! ;D ;D Actually the racing car analogy is spot on - that's EXACTLY what I was trying to get at. The captains /organisers would decide which flies to include which should create a level playing field, leaving it to the anglers skill to extract the best possible results from the selection available. The captains could agree to include blobs and bungs if they liked, or they may go for traditionals or a combination of flies to suit the water. It could open up all sorts of possibilites - if Blobs slaughter them on a certain water then why not limit yourself to buzzers and emergers? You wouldn't need time bonuses then! Who would tie them? I was thinking they could be commercially tied but I suppose that would take some of the fun away from experimenting with your own variants. Was I being tongue in cheek? Actually, I have been guilty of this from time to time on the forum but not this time. I am just offering a few ideas from an outsiders perspective, thats all. I wish you all the best and hope you come up with something that rekindles the spirit that drew into competition fishing in the first place. Allrounder ;D

As you can tell from my name I,ve a sense of humor. May I,ask why no one has approached the organisers of the current competitions with the thoughts being expressed here, they can,t take opinions on board if they are not given them.

Believe me, magicone, they get opinions whether they want them or not. Whether they listen to them or act on them is up to the organisers.

What we need is all the dates of the 'other' comp's / eliminators next year... then we can fix dates for the ITC.. here's where you all can help... as soon as you hear something... (before us ).. we can move... It's on.. dont worry!

A nice idea with the focus back on the competition... and not on prizes.
I guess we are all competitive in one way or another.
While it may not carry much weight on this thread, my reasons for not having entered a competion has been down to what seems like a a mass of rules, - and also that I don't like killing fish.
Competitions on rivers fish C&R why not competitions on reservoirs?

Come on guys let the four guys who have taken the bit between the teeth sort out the finer points of rules for this comp, that will give them more time to get things going,I totally agree with Martin on the BUNG it has no place in Comp fishing ,Time is moving on and they have alot to do booking venues etc ,so i wish them all the best and look forward to booking our team in for the Scottish heats TOSHY
