They look wonderful, j, and put my ham fisted efforts to shame. However, I got a pull on this one last Friday from a pike estimated between 5 and 6lbs but it threw the hook just as was about to net it. It is tied from red and white rabbit 'zonker' strips on a 4/0 hook and like most zonker patterns, it comes alive in the water. And before anyone comments on the barb - all my pike flies are debarbed before I fish with them. Allrounder ;D

Top and bottom flys have a coating of silicone sealant to form the front overbody

Nice looking flies!!
Have any of you tried EP fibres yet? 1 backcast and all the water is shed from the fly [creation] making casting much easier than with Zonker types. The action of EP flies is impressive as well, especially with a small amount of weight in the head [small EP eyes do the trick]

For the big flys I use buck tail and lureflash which is ok for water shed.
What is EP fibres?

allrounder i saw a post somewhere about you trying out a furled leader , how did it work out for you ? Corky The furled leader worked fine and it certainly had no problem turning over even my 6/0 flies The only problem was that the waters I fish have a rule that wire traces must be at least 18inches long and the titanium tip was much shorter than this. Of course I could argue that you don't need an 18'' trace for fly fishing but then again 'rules is rules' I suppose and if you want to attract the attention of curious club officials then it is hard to think of a better way than waving a fly rod around. At the moment I am using a 24lb Normark Adaptaleader cut back to give a tippet strength of around 15lb along with a 13lb Fulling mill trace. I had some problems originally with the knots pulling out on the trace but that was cured by a dab of superglue. I expect I will revisit furled leaders again in future but for the moment, my current setup is working fine. Allrounder ;D

Looks like I'll be out tomorrow instead of today . Has anyone tried the Nadder near Salisbury? I'm going to check out reports of big pike from a wier pool around there. I think poppers first, then time to experiment with some tubes ;D

Well, I blanked But so did my mate so I know it wasn't my flies In fact I nearly trod on the only pike we saw all day. Never mind, at least it was a nice day and we discovered a very nice stretch of river. J

Bad luck, we all blank. Pike and flys are a better summer option, no blanks then. Chin up.
