Thornton fishing report, week ending 26/02/06
Wintry showers & a bitterly cold east wind kept the rods off the water however the 65 anglers who did venture out caught 165 trout returning 68 for rod average 2.5.
The shelter of the Thornton Arm once again produced best with a fast sinking line & boobies, cats whisker & bloodworm patterns taking the majority of the fish.
A.J. Martin took a 4lb2oz over wintered fish on a minkie, one of a number of 3lb+ over wintered trout taken during the week.
Although last week effected by the weather February has been a good month for us with 440 rods catching 1924 trout returning 1037 for monthly rod average of 4.3, best rainbow during the opening month was 5lb taken by B. Nelson.

Thornton fishing report, week ending 05/03/06
Wintry showers, cold easterly winds & ice on the reservoir kept rods numbers low again last week although the 73 rods who fished caught 161 trout returning 55 for rod average 2.2
With the cold conditions a sinking line with a booby, cat’s whisker, tadpole & bloodworm patterns produced best, although Mark Salt fished a sight bob 18ft leader with small goldheads & buzzers to catch 7 trout on a particularly cold day.
With the cold conditions late morning (11.30am) through to late afternoon (5pm) is the most productive time to fish with the Thornton Arm, steps & wood still the best area to fish.
Boat Times: Full Day 8.30am – 5.30pm Part Day Boats : 8.30am – 12.30pm / 12.30pm – 5.30pm

Fishery Report week ending 12/03/06 At last I have put the Thornton web site on line visit us www.flyfishthornton.co.uk we will be updating the fishery news & report page weekly, also any special offers at the shop will be highlighted in red on the tackle pages. Ok the fishing report, thank god for good heaters at the lodge to keep us warm, its been a cold, wet wintry week with few rods venturing on the water 53 rods catching 59 trout with most of them caught on Thursday when we had a slightly warmer day. The fish that are getting caught are hard on the bottom with fast sinking lines & booby, cats whisker & tadpoles once again producing best. The forecast for Wednesday onwards looks better, we will hopefully see an improvement to the sport then. Full Day Boats 8.30am – 5.45pm Part Day 8.30am – 12.45 / 12.45 – 5.45 Lodge open from 7.30am 01530 230807 Ifor www.flyfishthornton.co.uk

Fishing report week ending 19/03/06 Visit us www.flyfishthornton.co.ukAlthough we had a similar weeks fishing to the week before the bank fishing has started to improve with the Thornton Arm opposite the lodge producing a few fish. Brothers A. Steer & D. Steer caught 7 between them but lost as many again with the majority coming to buzzers, D. Ford fished for three hours catching 5 on a damsel on an intermediate line with the majority of the fish within 15 – 20 yards of the bank. Boat anglers struggled during the week with the strong cold east winds keeping rods off the water, however a fast sinking line with a booby, tadpole & cats whisker did produce a few fish. Our web page www.flyfishthornton.co.uk has been updated I have included a links page which includes the bbc weather page giving the local forecast for Markfield our local town, its quite accurate. Full Day Boats 8.30am – 6.00pm Part Day Boats 8.30am – 1.00pm / 1.00pm – 6.00pm Lodge & tackle shop open from 7.30am Tel 01530 230807 Ifor

Thornton fishing report week ending 26/03/06 Visit our fishery web www.flyfishthornton.co.ukThe south & westerly winds from Thursday onwards gave us air temperature of 10+ & water temperature of 6 degrees which certainly helped the sport with 120 rods catching 255 trout returning 91 for rod average of 2.1 Bank anglers caught opposite the lodge & along the wood bank with floating lines buzzers & bloodworms whilst boat anglers generally caught better in the afternoon with bloodworm & buzzers under a sight bob or sinking lines with orange lures, black & green tadpole or booby producing best. John Hall caught 10 from the Markfield Arm on lures, Bill Sowerbutts caught 8 with 6 coming to his own tying the “Fads Fancy”, G. Walker fished with his grandson catching 12 to 4lb with J. Simpson & son catching 10. T. Barclay braved the cold water to fish from his float tube catching 5 to a small green nomad. With better weather forecast we should continue to see an upturn in the sport as we leave March & go into April. Full Day Boats 8.30am – 7.00pm Part Day Boats 7.30am – 1.00pm / 1.00pm – 7.00pm Lodge & tackle shop open from 7.30am Tel 01530 230807 Ifor

Thornton fishing report week ending 02/04/06 Check our web site for Norma Prime top tips for April. www.flyfishthornton.co.uk112 rods caught 338 trout returning 143 for rod average of 3.0 With the water temperature up to 8 degrees sporst has certainly improved with bank & boat anglers catching, however the best period of the day to fish has been late morning onwards. The bank angler have caught opposite the lodge & by the lonesome pine with boat anglers catching along the Thornton Arm & Markfield Arm. Olive tadpole, cats whisker, damsel, buzzer, bloodworm on an intermediate or floating line have worked with a sight bob & buzzers also worth a try. James hunt caught 4 fish in very windy conditions whilst fishing the bank by the lonesome pine with his best fish 4lb13oz over wintered rainbow, Allan Topping bank fished from 3pm – 7pm returning 8 fish to 4lb on an olive tadpole, D. Herrington enjoyed his best day ever taking 3 & returning 13 on a gold headed damsel from the corner of the wood with David Pritchard catching 12 from the Thornton Arm. Andre Russell took to his tube for a morning session catching 8 fish from in front of the wood. With the first of the martins on the water, an osprey spotted on its way north & the daffodils in flower & importantly a better forecast for the week, less wind, typical April scattered showers & daytime temperatures 9 – 12 degrees we should continue to see an improvement in the sport as the water temperature continues to rise with the warmer westerly airflow. Full Day Boat 8.30am – 7.30pm Part Day Boats 8.30am – 1.00pm / 1.00pm – 7.30pm Lodge & tackle shop open from 7.30am. Tel 01530 230807
