Fishing report for the period 17/04/06 – 30/04/06 During the past fortnight 394 rods caught 1258 trout returning 581 for rod average 3.2 with the boats catching around the cages, green bay & wood with the bank anglers catching opposite the lodge & lonesome pine. The buzzer hatches continue to get better & better with an excellent evening rise along the stones & green bay during the last couple of evenings. Buzzers, pheasant tails, suspender buzzers, diawl bach & cruncher are patterns that have all worked & with the water temperature close to 12 degrees it wont be long before were catching on the dries. With more & more fish moving on the surface boats should consider drifting rather than anchoring the more successful boat angler during the next few weeks will be the one on the drift. With the hawthorn coming into flower bank anglers need to keep a look out for the hawthorn fly with the stones & Markfield arm being the favourite area to look for this short lived but important May food item. Full Day Boats 8.30am – 8.40pm Part Day Boats 8.30am – 2.30pm / 2.30pm – 8.40pm Lodge & tackle shop open from 7.30am Tel 01530 230807 www.flyfishthornton.co.ukIfor

Fishing report week ending 14/05/06 A mixed weeks weather, still warm & bright for the first half of the week, colder south easterly winds & overcast for the end of the week, with 197 rods catching 367 trout returning 189 for rod average 1.9 The most successful method of the week was a floating line with a 18 – 20ft+ leader with black or olive buzzer fished static, Gary Owen continues to catch using this method catching 46 trout for his three visits, Mick Martin fished an afternoon & evening session catching 8 on dries & palomino midge. The evenings are starting to fish with good hatches of buzzer on the warmer evenings bringing the fish onto the surface, however the last hour will always produce the best of the sport. Other successful patterns for the week were diawl bach, hares ear, pheasant tails, dry hawthorn & damsel. The farm bank, wood & stones (hawthorn fly on the stone bank) fished best for the bank angler with the cages, stones & dam producing best for the boats. Full day boat times 8.30am – 9.20pm Part Day Boats 8.30am – 2.30pm / 2.30pm – 9.20pm Lodge & tackle shop open from 7.30am www.flyfishthornton.co.ukTel 01530 230807
