posted on behalf of MADCASTERphewwww.... what a night all hell broke loose!!! fished welsh dee on the corwen junction beat with ace seatrout wizard gwilym hughes,, its gonna be a tidy night tonight its right you will do well, Brew in the lodge and a chat about gundogs and seatrout pheasants and wildfowling saw the evening draw in and it was time ,, lets go then he said ,, walk in my footsteps so you dont trip" am grinning to myself and thinking if only i could"!! make your 1st cast there and mend and mend " perfect ...BANG ... missed it "" ok and dont panic take a step forward leave him take after take followed and never felt a one!! give me that rod said wiz" cast !!! BANG and in "" splash splash and a small sewin 3/4lb in unhooked and sent home ,,,did you see any difference paul" i wanted to hook him and as soon as i felt the tweak i lifted and there you go your turn,,, i connected instantly there you go a nice 1.1/2lb, and in he came a bar of silver, you carry on i am just having a pee over here ... 1st cast and i was in but a real slammer that went ape sh@t sploosh and splash"" its a good un as wiz came running across the shingle pulling his waders up "" lift your rod up drop it ....at this point it up in the air and bouncing ,,a good while later wiz nets him and we do the back slapping .. it was nearly a hug but were a bit too rough and ready fishermen come hunters for that type of thing,!! we moved pools and onto another glide that saw me loose after hooking a right beast of the same class,, we were both disappointed but wiz said consoling me its better to come off there than at your feet now" pull yourself together and cast that bloody line, what followed was to his prediction the half moon showed himself and it went dead, let us go and have a brew i want to talk to you about presentation, back at the hut we chatted ,, well rather i listened " and what was to follow coming from a home international river god was mind blowing and relayed to me in real break down layman's terms,, i usually have the attention span of a knat but not now i was listening to every word ,,,take the surface lure for example he said and a small chat about the method and mechanics of it followed"" in fact drink up lets go ! yeah now with it ,,, now watch as were both side by side in the pool and its now black,, with a big cloud cover, " now see here watch watch watch Bang,,,fish landed unhooked and returned " see ! see what i done now you "" i tried ! no . no . no. says wiz in a quietly manner ,,, like this as he takes the wand and casts that spell and what was to happen again became the norm,, i expected it !! Bang he was in !! unhooked returned, these returns are fresh 1lb sewin , now you try " good. good. bettter...now your fishing Bang i was in . i kept this one he was 2lb,, we moved pools after all that chaos,,, now cast there ,, will be back in a minute "" poor old wiz cant hold his tea on these chilly nights,, ARHH ARHH... you got me as i tried to double haul him into the pool on my forward cast!! poor old wiz was standing in the wrong spot ,, there isn't a safe place when i am letting rip with a big surface lure you can run but you cant hide!!! wiz removes it himself from his head while he is doing this he cant see my features as it is so dark but i am biting my lip , here is this man who turns my seatrout fishing on its head and turns it around and Ive made him have the big lure!!! he took it in all good faith , we caught and returned many, and at 3.30 ,, he said its over mate they will come back on just before light , We got talking about casting and what followed was a snap T casting lesson and he would not let me leave till i had mastered it,, This is my second outing with wiz i saw him use a torch once in 2 outings , he tied flies on and made up casts un hooked fish and him self ! without the aid of a torch ,, last time was spectacular this was ,,...well , i now believe after seatrout fishing for over 15 years you can go stale and just go out and repeat and accept defeat as the norm... well you dont have to you know! p.s my 1st visit was a full moon and hot and then very cold and misty almost that can feel winter around the corner.................

Madsy (forgive my familiarity) Welsh Wiz?............you've obviously been fishing with my mate Gwilym Hughes. Yes old boy............a true 'wiz'. Took me under his wing in '97...............fished my first International in '98 and after further coaching won 4 consecutive Welsh Nationals on the river. Last night?......brilliant. No fish for me, Wiz had one, I lost three. Now then, that Beat is full of fish......the surface lure brought countless fish to the surface. Yes, we only had one between us, but the sport was superb. Every now and then, the human race produces individuals with genius qualities............you and I have had the pleasure of meeting one of such people. HOWEVER, .....................he can't drink to save his life Bugsy

spoke to the wizard earlier was going to fish tonight but decided to have 7 pints instead , and the gaffer..... a true master.. when i asked him things he prompted me to answer them myself, by leading me into a way of thinking,,, to answer a question and then move on there is nothink learned , having been fortunate to have shot at an international level i know what it takes , to fish and compete at such a level must be mind blowing as all your ideas must be original , good luck in all you do.. p

;D ;D Had a great day out at Corwen with my new mates, Tango, Bugsy and the "lord of the cast" Gwilym.
Tried the bugging method, funny type of fishing and bloody difficult for me to pick up the takes. However thanks to Tango's gift of bugs and Bugsy's gift of tuition I'll be having a go on the Goulburn River back home when the season opens this week - will keep you informed.
Thanks again guys for your hospitality and the lunchtime wine!
When you come to OZ, get in touch and let's go fishing!
Diolch yn fawr iawn!!!
Jeremy ;D ;D

MadcasterPretty mind blowing at times.........several highs with equal amounts of lows TangoThat Spey casting was always over rated Now then, mid September.............don't be too eager to use the bugs. Yes, they will work, BUT, given the right weather conditions this is dry fly bonanza time. In fact, it continues until the end of October............this is big fish time and sport can be fast and furious. F Flys, Sunflys, Parachutes 14's - 16's, Cul de Cannons etc will all have their hours / days. AussieflickerHope you had a good journey home. Next time you're here let us know.........you're more than welcome to fish at any time. Keep us informed of your progress with the bugs. BTW............... croesoIt's been a reasonable season folks on a Great River................let's pray for rain, the Salar will then arrive ;D ;D Bugsy

Well, following the events of Thursday night where a 2.5lber was caught and a fish of approx. 10lb was lost, in a tree , I was full of anticipation on Friday night as I approached the river. Unfortunately, the weather had other ideas..........a cold, clear night, with mist rising off the water soon dampened the spirits. However, I hooked and lost 3 fish but at 1am I decided to call it a day and went home empty handed. A 4lb Grilse was taken yesterday on the Junction Beat, but we desperately need rain. As I write this, a few spots are falling............everything's crossed!! Bugsy

Another 1/2" of Rain fell, delivering all the poisonous surface crapppp into the River , it put the Grayling/ Trout and Seatrout right off....on a brighter note though Salmon and Grilse have arrived in the Corwen area, saw five yesterday whereas for the past month prior to yesterday had only seen one... so here's hoping for a good back end Grayling
