Outside the office window a bullfinch is on the prunus buds. He is alone. No sign of two wives. Is this a new male? Has my old triplicate now finally flown off this mortal coil?
It's good to see him. He is, quite literally, in the pink of condition. Spring is here, methinks.

They look like cultivated daffs to me. Is that the verge on the way to Over Haddon and Conkesbury?

They probably are cultivated and are growing on the roadside near a bridge over the River Clwyd near Denbigh. If you look at the advertising sign you can see that it is a Welsh name. Last year they were in flower by 24th January, this year it was 3rd February.
There are not many truly wild daffodils around, one of the best shows is on the M50 near Ross on Wye where there are acres of them in the woods and sides of the motorway and they extend several miles into the farmland on the northern side of the woods.

Well the season is approaching and my excitement is building. I'm going to plan quite a few days on the wye this season. Most specifically for mayfly time, i missed it last season (work- the bane of every fisherman). I will be bringing a good friend who is new to the sport and I wondered when the mayfly hatch gets properly underway.

Spring is here, methinks. richard There is good agreement on the forecasting models that the end of this month is going to be a lot colder than recent days - maybe even a proper cold spell with snow.....

The prunus this week has many more buds of eating size so they are making the most of these pretty victuals. There is good Derbyshire Drizzle going on right now. The sort of rain that lands so softly on you that you end up being soaked through to the skin without realising it. Now if it can keep this up for a few days, all will be well... richard

They really are the most splendid sight and it makes a day in the office a little more bearable. richard
