Na-then all, thinking of pushing the boat out and buying the greyflex M2 9ft 6" 6/7# for small stillwaters and as I already have two new 6# lines in use with my other rod I would hate to have to buy again has anybody got any good or bad opinions regarding this rod, also does the 3 section rods have any disadvantage over the 2 section rod Thanks for any replies.

Hi there,
I have a greyflex m2 9ft 6 7/8 3 piece and wouldn't swap it for anything. I use it for stillwater work and can happily fish with it all day. Kinda hard to describe but it just feels "right". It is happy casting a beaded lure or a small dry fly into the path of a cruising trout. Comes with a guarantee as well. Nicely finished too.
I have a 10ft 6 Platinum XD that I use for single handed salmon and Dollaghan, but the M2 compares really well to it. A Platinum XD would be nice for stillwater work but I can't justify the extra £100 on top of what you get with the M2. For the money , the M2 is the only rod to get in it's price range, in my opinion.
I would only buy the 3 piece, for the security of being able to put it in the boot. Also I once had one of the older 9ft 6 greyflex rods that was a 2 piece. Then I had a go with exactly the same greyflex rod that a mate owned, only it was a three piece. I found that I far preferred the action that the 3 piece gave me. I sold the old greyflex rod, bought the 3 piece M2 and never looked back.
Good luck.

I've got the exact same rod you're thinking of getting and really enjoy using it. I like the action of it and it really suits my casting style. It can hold up a fair bit of line, if that's how you like casting, or it can punch out the head and let the running line zing out after it. Casts a nice tight loop which you can open up easily if you need to. There's hardly any tip drop on the stop, resulting in a "jag" in your loop. I've got the #6/7 and #7/8 3 piece rods, so can't comment on the 2 piece versions, but they fit well into the boot, excellent for security purposes, and I don't think they spoil the action of the rod at all. Fish playing is good as you can feel every movement of the fish, but there's enough power in the rod to be able to "bully" the fish in if you need to. With the lifetime guarantee I don't think you can go wrong with them and I don't think you'll be disappointed.
