Right - bought some of this recently - 3lb. Tried to tie it to a loop at the end of my fly line with a quick tucked blood knot. Pulled the knot and the stroft slipped...and slipped...and slipped until it came loose. Tried it again and it did the same. Very annoying and disappointing. Changed to some old Kamasan 3lb and had no problems. Maybe it is my knot (never had this before) but I was quite annoyed - I thought this was top stuff!
Is it just me?

I've never understood why Stroft is rated so highly. It might be cheap but you get what you pay for.

Hi Sewinman,
I usually tie stroft to the end of a tapered leader (rio) with a water knot, 3-4, turns or to a tippet ring at the end of a furled leader with a half blood, not even tucked, and have never had this problem. It may be you. One thing it doesnt like is loop to loop connections which will always snap when testing.
I only really use it for the business end and find it good as it is low vis and nice and soft for smaller flies. I have never really had any problems with knots.
Cheers,
S

It has a extremely thin diameter, most people love it Never had any problems with knots or had such feed back The only thing I would perhaps point out is for droppers use stronger test as all under the 5.10 kgs imho is for tippet material The 8 kg and the 10.5 kg is great for salmon The other problem being that the little bit of writing as to the test etc needs a bit of selotape as it wears away, this I always do before sending One of my customers takes back a box of 6.4 kilo's for some of the Currane boatmen who love it .Charles Jardine said it was amazing, nearly everyone who uses it repeat purchases
But horses for courses, one man's meat is anther man's poison
Doctors differ and patients die, everyone to their own opinion etc etc

I love the stuff and I use it lots.
However, I do know what you mean about slipping knots. Normally I use a plain half blood no matter what hook or line, but with stroft you must tuck it.

Sewinman.
For droppers use a 2 turn water knot and for attaching to fly line I use a 4 turn blood knot, I always use 5lb as it is as thin as any 3 lb line.
A good friend told me about it and I have used nothing else for the last 3 years

Whats it like for tying droppers- is it stiff so the droppers stand out and do not tangle?
