Looking into one of these, i just wanted to check other peoples opinions on them, its for me to fish a fairly small river with mainly small fish in with quite alot of trees and not many places to get a tidy back cast in. Any info would be great. Thanks welshy

Welsy,
I have an 8'6'' Greyflex 4/5 which is great fun to use. Unfortunately I don't get to fish with it very often and when I do it tends to be on small stillwaters. I am sure it would serve you well for fishing small rivers and streams. In my opinion it's line rating is correct. For the price you can hardly go wrong.

Hiya, I have the GRX of the same weight and lengh and love it. I think it is a lovely rod to fish with as long as you get a nice lightweight reel to go along with it

you might get one half price as places were clearing them to make way for the new range harris had some cheap but they also have some of the newer G-series rods for 40 quid - in the size you are after as well and off course the one in the classifieds

I have an 8`6 4/5 GRXi. New to the sport but have found it very easy to use on the small rivers on the Welsh boarders that I fish. Good value for money.

I've used the GRX-8½ft 4/5# rod and own the 8ft 3/4# version. Both are nice rods (for the money, even more so with new models replacing them and many bargains to be had). I prefer the lighter rod as it just feels nicer especially if you are only after fish of less than 2lb in weight. The 4/5# might prove more useful, all round though?

Welshy, it should be fine. I find the grip on mine too slim ( and i have small hands ) and the colour is so so but thats small beer really.

I use an 81/2foot Greyfley and prefer it to faster and more expensive rods for the medium size rivers I fish. Line weight will depend on how you fish but typically a DT4 or WF 5 will be right. I use Shakespeare lines and reels that suit the rod.Reels I use include Hardy LRH, Rimfly 155 and BFR Disc 55. Take your pick, they all are as effective. With this rod keep the reel under 41/2 oz. rusty ;D

Hi welshy, Greys make some excellent rods and you get the life time guarantee if you buy it brand new which is why I rate them so highly. Not sure if you buy a greys rod second hand if the guarantee will be affected. If I were you i'd check this out on there website www.greysfishing.co.ukOn the Harris Sportsmail website there are some greys models for half price which is excellent value for money. The new G-series is reviewed in this months trout fisherman magazine and I think it did quite well for a rod of £50 odd quid. Unfortunately I don't know much about reels, to be honest I play all my fish by hand so the reel is nothing more than a line holder for when I'm ready to go home but I do know of anglers who disagree with this. I guess it's what ever your happiest with. I think Airflow do some good deals where you get line and leader loops free sometimes. Tight lines mate.

I've got an 8ft 3/4 GRX and love i. Its fab for the small stream I fish. This year I got the okuma reel (about £35) and its a good match.
For a rod this small I don't see the point in spending huge amounts. Lets face it, the fish you are after on this size of Rod are never going to eat into the backing.
