You'd be better to contact them FF, dont think you can judge it on just your experience and it might be an isolated case(obviously when you buy something you expect it to be right but one off's can occur). I would certainly get in touch with MB pretty quick, posts like this can damage reputations somewhat..

I suggest you email or ring Mike Barrio. Given my experience of his responsiveness, I would expect him to replace it.
I've not heard of any other such problems - it's a Shakespeare line, after all, so I doubt there is a fault in the manufacturing process, they churn out tens of thousands.

Charlie I've had to return snowbee xs lines that had bumps in them. No manufacturing process is totally flawless. Presumably your original post regarded a defect in the Barrio line? I'm sure Mike would replace it if it is defective.

I have seen this on just about every current manufacturers lines in recent years. They used to have teams of girls running them through their fingers to check for flaws. Anything not perfect was then graded out to a second or Mill End and bulk sold at a discount through some of the older dealers like McHardys. Nowadays the process' used is supposed to be flawless and manufacturers cannot afford to pay a load of girls to check the lines, so QC has flown out the window in favour of cheap competitive prices. To be honest a slight bump will not affect performance, but why put up with a flaw if you are buying at a top whack price? There are a lot of the Redditch lines about at the moment in various guises and colours, as they make all Snowbee, Hardys, Greys, Barrio, Partridge, Fulling Mill, Michael Evans, plus a few more and their own brand of course. I can buy most versions for under £10 for some reason at present (not found one with any bumps yet!) The Fulling Mill versions I believe may still be hand inspected and certainly appear to have the edge on quality, but they are quite pricey and seldom discounted. Its the "price" we pay for cheap prices, If I scaled up what I used to pay for good lines 25 years ago to today, allowing for inflation, something like a Cortland 444 or a Scientific anglers Supreme, they would be well over £100 today!
