Anyone looking for very fine spider patterns should look no further than www.spidersplus.co.ukI have seen and tied some quality flies but these are very very good tied on very fine hooks. I have had a storming time on the upper clyde with the Short Tied Tummel/Clyde style bought from the website. Sparse does the trick. Cran

You should have a look at DrRob's site as well, there's more info and listed patterns, if the links still works ! www.snipeandpurple.co.uk/

Good to see Dr Rob's site back online with a revamped look.
I will have to find an hour or two to have a good read.
I can also testify as to the quality of flies from spidersplus, I just wish I had more opportunity to use them.

half a dozen flies for a fiver bit steep !!!!!! I dont think so. You get what you pay for: top quality flies tied by someone who has real passion and enthusiasm for what he does. You also get so much more besides the flies. You will find that Phil Holder is extremely helpful and responsive to requests for advice, suitable patterns/dressings for different circumstances. I have had some lovely flies from him and cannot recommend his services highly enough ;D

I can wholeheartedly recommend both Phil Holding and Dr Rob as fly-tiers of top quality spiders, and as a generous source of information and advice. They are both great guys and a credit to our sport. I only wish that I was able to spend more time fishing their spiders on north-country rivers.

The spidersplus spiders are superbly tied and quality very very good quality.
The Clyde stlye spiders he does are very effective on stillwaters as well when trout become fussy.
I cannot speak more highly of his work.{And I have never met the man}

I have had flies from Stephen Cheetham at Fishing with Style and more recently CDC Spiders from Phil Holding . Both top men . Best thing with Spiders is to tie them yourself anyway ( sorry phil and steve ) and their flies will show you the standard. As an Irishman I've no connection with Yorkshire or its rivers but we can all help to keep this brilliant tradition going. As some writer said in FF and FT , "if I was restricted to only using one type of fly anywhere in the world it would be the Spider" ( or words to that effect ) .
Easy to tie , and deadly ................
