I was thinking of getting one of these to assist in my new river fishing ventures...

I've got one of those and it is best to remove the saw and simply use the pruner. It is suprisingly powerful. I can't see you creeping along with one of these included in your regular tackle...

Mine stays hidden near the river and I drag it out as and when needed. Permission, permission, permission! BEFORE you use it!
