I write commercials. I don't have any tackle clients (unfortunately). I have sold tackle in the past as a hobby from a web site, but lack of time forced me to stop that. I do still supply the occasional rod, but it could hardly be called a business.

I don't work for any business associated with fishing. RKT, if I may, I would also like to make the point that anyone who accepts money, goods, or services from the tackle trade works in the trade. It's no good for competition anglers to claim they don't wrork in the trade because they only accept free kit. Grouse Yes you are right FG. Originally, I was going to put something like - this includes if you are sponsored, receive proforms, etc. I elected not to because I thought it would turn into a 'sponsorship tarts' thread. And then I would feel even more left out Although I am genuinely interested in knowing who's loyalties go beyond brand loyalties, I also started this thread because I knew it would provoke some humorous responses - ala grease monkeys, working for peanuts etc. I certainly don't want to get anyone's 'hackles' up. At the end of the day, it would be nice to know if that favourable plug for a zero g, xp, or 'beastmaster9000' comes from the heart, or from a desire to sell a few more. Mike

I'd love to think this thread would give members the background information that would allow them to evaluate reviews etc. but I don't think it has a chance of doing this.
Even if you ask people to declare every single free or discounted item they've recieved it still won't bring all the skeletons out.
I know of one incident where someone bought a large amount of kit from one shop and was given discount dependent on them writing a 'they were great' thread on here. Also you'll find that whether a thread is tackle related or not, many forum members are friends and often stick by their friends.
I think the only thing you can do is read all reviews and if one is overly rave then ask them whether they're affiliated to the product. Don't worry about them lying there are plenty of people on this forum with sufficient inside knowledge to rumble them if they choose to deny any connection.
Sorry for sounding so negative but I'd hate to think that people reading this believed it to be the defacto who's who.

I worked in a tackle shop for around 4 and a half years, most of my days were spent tying flies for stock, building and repairing rods and servicing and repairing reels. Was good for me as i was taught by an ex House of Hardy fly tyer. That was a while ago now though, dont work in that shop or trade any longer sadly

I work for the Sharpe's Group, (Sharpe's of Aberdeen, Abel and Thomas & Thomas to name the fly fishing side).
If I genuinely think a product that I use is good, I will recommend it. Whether that recommendation is taken in good faith as intended is up to the individual reader.
I hope that those of you that have purchased items due to my comments don't feel that you have been misled.

Really, what are they called I might have heard of them. I dont work for anyone in the tackle trade but if anyone has any openings which involve short hours and big pay I might be interested. Cheers, S

For my sins I work for a Yank computer firm, which to my knowledge doesn't make any fishing gear. Handy if you like buying stuff in the States that is usually overpriced in the UK...

I work for the LFFA bring and Buy at the Chatsworth Angling Fair, and have done so for the past 20 years. You don't get paid and all money raised is given to charity. It's perhaps one of the most rewarding ways to play with a wide variety of tackle if you can class it working in the trade?
A few years ago I also moonlighted for what was Lathkill Tackle, at one or two Angling fairs around the country, again this was for fun.
