I need to reverse a SA system 2 reel but have not the faintest idea how to do it. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Sewinman-- It's pretty easy. Remove the spool. You'll see a gear that surrounds the spindle. Lift it off, turn it over and replace. That's it. If I can do it, anyone can!

Sewinman,
If it's a standard System 2 reel it's not as easy as suggested. I have the written instructions here and will attempt to describe what it says without the pictures.
1) Looking at the back of the reel, rotate the drag knob anti-clockwise until it stops. Remove the spool and make a note of the position of the punch mark on the nut in the middle of the 'yoke' over the drag assmebly.
2) Remove the screws at either side of the of the 'yoke' and lift the 'yoke' off. Now rotate the plate that is sitting over the cogged wheel anti-clockwise until it's clear of the cogged wheel.
3) Lift the cog and turn it over and do the reverse of steps 1 and 2.
Hope this makes sense. If not give me your address and I'll post the instruction book to you.

Thanks MJB. I will have a go. I think it is a standard one as I just nearly ripped my nails off trying to pull the cog up! If i can't do it I will send you a PM.
Thanks for taking the time to type that out.

sorry sewinman, i have several system two's i just picked up the 1st one that came to hand ,a more recent 8/9 with the perforated backplate, this has the cog not connected to the disk brake.i am looking at an older model 12/13 and mjb is correct you have to take off the caliper to allow you to reverse the disc. as i've never had to reverse the wind, it never occurred to me that there would be 2 different styles of operation and 3 different calipers .i have just attempted to do as mjb has said .the 1st one, no bother .just unscrew top plate, then line up cam. and top disc pad lifts off.tun over plate and reasemble the 2nd one the plate is very much larger.but is also held by 2 screws ,ift off this plate and the disc pad lies underneath ,just lift this off the disc ,turn over plate ,replace pad ,then caliper .finished' again sorry for the bum steer in my 1st post.hope this helps

Definitely a different animal than the System 2 I have. With it, reversal requires nothing but lift and flip...no screwdrivers or anything removed. I did it twice in the time it took me to type the previous sentence...
I just dug through my garage sale box and pulled a rather old System 2 that I'm selling (it has a cage, and the spools aren't ported). It has the caliper that must be unscrewed. I didn't realize that there was more than one system.
Sorry about that, Sewinman. Hope your fingernails heal.

MJB - my reel looks different to yours! It has a plate under the cog. I decided to bribe an expert with beer...and also to get ACW to help me Thanks for all your help. It ain't even mine...someone with a nice tan has delegated the task to me.
