Had a few hours on the river this afternoon. At bang on 5pm it was as if a switch had been thrown, mayflies were everywhere. ;D

I assume they are there down south but not up north - I've not seen any yet in Cheshire... any northern reports?

I was there for a great hatch in Oxfordshire - couldn't go wrong, browbies rising everywhere on my little stream. Fantastic!

Apparently a good ish hatch on "my "bit of the Kennet !! I once saw one of the heaviest hatches of mayfly that I've ever seen on "your" stretch of the Kennet. When the spent began to fall it was clear that the hatch on the previous day had been just as heavy, you almost literally couldn't see for fly. I always seemed to find that the fly were a little later on the Kennet than some other rivers, the hatch in question was on 12th June.

Fingers crossed for the 11th June this year then. Otherwise it will be trying to tempt Suffed trout with tiny gnats, the Fishy equivalent of:- "Just one more wafer thin mint Mr Creosote"

Out on the Avon today. Saw about 20 or 30 Danica Fish not on them yet. Even with the clouds of them on my stretch yesterday, the fish wouldn't go near them. Maybe they were in shock.

They are up on Corrib and L.Ree however the trout havent totally switched on to them, but the fish that are caught are meant to be big. Dont think that helps much but will find out for sure next week
