Hi All,
Just a quick question - does anyone know if you have to pay duty etc on items sent from Australia? If so, is it a similar rate to goods from the US?

Yes, you do have to pay duty on items from Australia. The rate will probably be the same as for goods from the USA. The old " Imperial " preference went out the window when we joined the EEC, now the EU.

Why is it you can bring back stuff from europe on the ferry and not pay charges, yet if you buy from aboard and they ship it to you , you do  |

It's that wonderful thing the EU. Provided that you stay within the financial limits and bring it back yourself, I believe that you can import some gear from outside the EU without incurring charges.

What do you need bought back?
I am in Aus from the 4th June back in blighty 10th June and can bring stuff back if you need.

It wasnt about me needing anything"cheers anyway"i was a bit confused as to why you can purchase in the EU and bring through customers without a problem,yet if you have it sent to you you could incure charges from customs .If i brought five cases of wine they wouldnt give a monkeys, so why not fishing gear  |

Hi,
Thanks for your replies. To be honest I´ve been looking at the Danielsson reels on Oz websites, which seem to be a bit cheaper than Uk prices. I was just wondering if it´s worth saving my pennies, but with postage, duties etc it ´d probably be more expensive.
Thanks for the kind offer Sagefly, but I think my wife would murder me if I bought any more tackle just at the moment ( first kid on the way in October...)
