I've now put these forums into a 'read-only' mode.
The reasons for the change in forums server & software are detailed below.
Please come and join us over at the new forums!
: : : PLEASE NOTE - when you visit the new forums you will need to re-register, choosing a username, password and using an active e-mail account for verification . I've not been able to import old usernames & addresses : : :
I've added one forum in which you can continue to post - if you have any problems with the registration process, please leave details here - I'll continue to monitor.
Cheers,
Invicta

I’m pleased to announce that the new forums are now ready! A handful of user have helped me check that the registration system is working and all seems fine.
Whilst it’s a shame to be asking forum visitors to move to the new forums, I do think the move will be worth it.
We’re now hosting the forums on a dedicated server (rather than through ProBoards) and the new software is written in such a way that should we ever need to make another change, we’ll be able to transfer the threads etc.
There are a few nice bonuses with the software - like the ability to be sent an e-mail when you’ve received a private message and to receive an e-mail when you’ve had a reply posted to a thread.
I’ll be working on the graphic banner across the top and although the forums are ad-free at present, I will eventually be adding a single strip of Google Ads - similar to those that appear on the current forums - but without the banner ads beneath.
As for the forum content, I have been keeping an eye on the thread I posted and clearly there’s a bias towards reducing the number of forums - the only question is what goes? There seem to be different views on this.
I’ve slightly rearranged the forums but haven’t managed to reduce the number. But I am still thinking how best to do this and haven’t ignored the points raised so far.
I’ll be leaving the existing forums fully operational for a couple of days, then switching these to a read-only mode. But the forums will stay ‘on’ indefinitely so feel free to copy/paste content or create links back to specific pages for reference.
One special request...
I think it would be beneficial to all of us if forum users would register the same username they have here. With 4,700 registered users I'm not able to manually input these but I will assist if anyone is clearly 'hijacking' a username. To assist in the clearing up of any potential problems, please could you ensure that you use the same e-mail address for both forums - that will help me solve any disputes. But I am hoping that this won’t be required.
Right... here’s the address:

Cheers,

PS... As I mentioned previously, as a ‘thank you’ for taking the trouble to register for the new forums, I’ll have a few gifts to give away to a random selection of new forum users.
PPS... I wanted to clarify that there will be no change in the way the forums are operated and moderated. This change is primarily to give us a more stable platform for the future.
