Everyones probably going to take the piss out of me but i have broad shoulders so what the hell. Take a nice strong wide gape hook, size 8 or 10 hayabusa competition heavyweight are ideal Run appropriate colour tying thread down shank Tie in a tail(marabou is a favourite or short strands of silver tinsel and pearlex mixed) Then take 12 inches of desired colour fritz chenille and tie in at back of hook Run thread upto eye then wrap fritz aroun the hook, building the body as you go Finally tie off and varnish Or thats how i tie them anyway and they certainly work for me.

I have always found that it is better to keep patterns simple. especially for stillwaters. It is far better to have lots of colour variations tied than 3 or 4 flies that look immaculate but take 30 mins each to tie. Ok, now im ready for the micky takers out there. give it your best shot.

................as a heavy blob user, here are a couple of additional tips :
- as you make each turn of fritz, stroke it back towards the bend so the "hackle" sits right.
- don't be tempted to tie it right upto the eye, leave yourself planty of room to make a head and tie off. I typically have too much material jammed in there.
You can actually leave a bit more room and then add booby eyes, to make the blob's close companion, the "blooby" which I find especially effective.
