I'm thinking about a trip to South America either next year or in 2007. Not a trip of a lifetime as such, but one which I'm unlikely to repeat in a hurry.
So, any thoughts on what to fish for, where and when?
Ideally looking for something sort-of independent - but realise a lodge etc. might be the best option.
Cheers,

It may be worth you getting in contact with Bloke (Mick Bell). I believe he has fished down in Chile.
Patagonia is certainly high on my "wanna go to" list.

I have fished in Chilean Patagonia, and in tierra del fuego (both sides of the border). a few years back now but i stay in touch with people in that neck of the woods and have friends who have fished argentina and chile. IMHO chile is the best bet-safest, nicest people, and some utterly awesome fly fishing for trout. sea run browns in T del F are extraordinary sport too.
i did it all independently - can't afford the $3K a week the lodges charge (minimum) on top of the flights! with some hard work , long walks and car hire i was able to fish a lot of water that those same lodges put their wealthy clients on.
spent 5 weeks there and would be happy to give more detailed advice ..pm me.
