Hi Fly fisher 100. I had torn the ligaments in my elbow( not fishing related) about 2 years a go, just before I did my fly casring instructors exam ( sods law), the NHS gave me a suport, which I don't think worked that well, give it a little time to heal, some thing I use now and again is from Argos it is a Nike flexi support, about £10 which helps, if it gets sore, the other thing is if you had a couple of casting lessons so you don't have to put so much effort in to you casting, that is the big secret. let the rod do it for you, but take it easy, I know what it is like

Not the ideal solution, but try learning to cast with the other arm. Practice with a hammer and chisel first, nothing like pain to speed up the learning process I had to learn to use a hammer and chisel in another life so I could work in awkward places, you soon learn direction and timing in those situations To ease the learning pain try nails into wood too.

A single afternoon casting biiiiiig pike flies with a fast rod and an 8 weight gave me TE too.
The next week I could hardly lift my arm onto my body from the matress, or raise it to chest level to twist a doorknob.
GP prescribed "time" + a painkiller gel but that just masked the pain.
I waited 6 wks with little improvement then went to see a sports physio.
Luckily I found someone who didn't see me as a cash machine and 5 visits later things were much improved.
It's 2 yrs on for me now but I still get twinges
Things that helped were:
1. I stopped flyfishing from Oct (when it happened) to May. 2. Physio gave me ultrasonic treatment + massage + excercises to do at home and expained why/how they worked. 3. I did the excercises every day.
Moral: 1. Don't fish effin' great flies on a fast rod with too light a line (10 wt soft rod would have been better, I discovered later). 2. If the pain doesn't go away quickly, seek professional help asap, or the tear could heal and scar tissue form in an unhelpful way for the future.
