Hi Tom,
Welcome to the forum.
Depending where you live in the North West there are a few instructors;
Jim Curry - nr Leeds - 01943 879225
Rob Horsfall - Preston / Lancaster - 01995 679 216
Gary Coxon - Cheshire - 01606 882 891
Jim Fearn - Lancashire - 01254 824 892
If you are considering which clubs to join, then as mentioned above -
Prince Albert have plenty of waters, with quite a lot on the Ribble and a beat at Ribble / Hodder foot. Unfortunately the waiting list for the club is about 2 to 3 yrs and presently costs about £85 per yr with another £85 joining fee.
www.paas.co.uk/ If you do join beware of the rules - they are ridgedly enforced, also, they do not allow guest tickets.
Other clubs worth considering are;
Ribblesdale A A - seem like a reasonable club with water on the Ribble / Calder, and a nice beat on the Hodder. http://www.ribblesdaleangling.co.uk./index_start.html
Ribchester & District (RADAC) - have quite a bit of water on the Ribble and also the Hodder. Membership is £70 per yr with £100 joining fee and there is quite a waiting list (3 to 4 yrs). They also allow members to take on a guest via a guest ticket.
www.radac.org.uk/index.html There is an E A day ticket stretch at Mitton on the Ribble / Hodder confluence for £4.00 per day, available from The Mitton Hall Hotel just down the road, but it does get quite a bit of pressure.
flyforums.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=riverupdates&action=display&thread=1116946479 A nice alternative is the upper Hodder, day tickets are available from the Post Office & General Store in Slaidburn, (tel: 01200 44 62 68) which is open - weekdays: 8 till 5.30, Sat: 8.30 till 5, and Sunday 9.30 till 12, Day tickets cost £7. Phone in advance.
The E A have a downloadable guide which you may find helpful as it provides a comprehensive list of rivers and stillwaters, for coarse and game.

As Matt has mentioned the Eden, and it's definatley worth fishing,
www.lakedistrictfishing.net/ follow the links through "rivers" and it will give you a list / links to most of the clubs on the Eden, it's also an excellent site if you want to fish around the Lake District, or phone John Norris of Penrith - 01768 864211.
