Charlie........... You have to look at blanks in a positive way They build your reslove. They allow you longer periods of boredom so you can observe the local wildlife. They help you look at your fishing in a more creative way and encourage you to experiment with new patterns and techiniques. They give you more time to 'bond' with your fellow anglers. They prevent your freezer from overfilling. And there are many, many more Oh and if you believe that load of old Bo**ocks then you're dafter than I C.B ;D

I'm not convinced, CB Being outside with nice surroundings is OK but I really don't enjoy not catching after more than a couple of hours. Actually, it's bites I need more than catching - they are what keep me interested. Three blanks in three years fly fishing Charlie

Ah I know what you mean Charlie It's the tugs that keep us going for sure I do find the older I get the less is the need to 'bag up' and I'm more content now with a fish or two than I used to be C.B

Just seen that the BBC Weather forecast has cut it's predicted wind speed for tomorrow from 25 mph to 17mph but also now added Thunder and lightning Where's my old fibreglass rod C.B

Thank goodness not but I do fish Wally occasionally, and I've had a few dire days there where I've only escaped by the skin of my teeth. I actually believe Wally is as hard as it gets other than when they have recently stocked.

I joined the happy campers at 4pm today for a couple of hours of bank fishing from Green Lawn. As I arrived Blondie was into a fish despite the rain and he had a another shortly after as I was tackling up. Blondie told me the successful pattern both times was a .... wait for it! .... Orange Blob on an intermediate! ;D ;D Well, I didn't have any Orange Blobs but I threw my usual patterns at them and didn't have a touch. Lake fisher even gave me one of his Orange Witches but they were having none of it. Then it started to rain hard again so I called it quits after just two hours. I took this photo during a sunny spell between rain storms ... Left to right : Blondie, Lakefisher, Leisuredgentleman and then my memory fails me ... is it the Pirate and Martha? So far I have yet to have a pull during the Social but looking at the weather forecast for tomorrow, I predict there will be plenty of bobbing and (orange) Blobbin' on the boats! Allrounder ;D

I had to keep my strenth up Blondie ;D Well the Bok struck of friday as i shared a boat with Chris and as i was warned i had a blank day The first blank i have had in years. We still had a great day and it was great putting faces to names. A few of us blanked on fri so i was not on my own We had a good night and the only thing that drowned out the wind and rain was the sound of people snoring. Chef lived up to his name and along with spider cooked up some mean bacon baps Sat on the bank was better than the boats on fri and i managed to land two nice rainbows The rain started coming down very hard so i called it a day around 5pm. Great to meet up with so many nice people and look forward to doing it again TobyM PS Chris still had not had a fish when i left and he also had a blank day at Chew the day before the social(que p**staking) ;D ;D

'Nother update ;D
My thanks to all at the social for making it what it was - a great 3 days in good company. Meeting again with old friends and making some new ones.
My only score on the door was a 4 lb (ish) Brown from the boat on Fri, a single pull (missed !) on Sat - and I decided to give the Sun fishing a miss with the forcast promising high winds.
Best of luck to those brave enough to give it a bash today.
Will do my best to attend @ Thornton.
Cheers ..... Tony

First of all a big, big thanks to Chris for organising the Social and to Trout for sorting out camping arrangements this end ;D I've just got back and was last to leave the water with Allrounder and Spider and Starsky in their boat. A special mention must go to Leisuredgentleman and Rosie who rowed around the entire lake in a howling gale I honestly thought we would have had to tow them back to the lodge but they 'breezed it' ;D ;D Today was pretty tough too and I was lucky to have 3 fish, Allrounder had a nice Brown that he returned. As for the Social as a whole it was just fantastic to meet up with such a great bunch of Blokes not forgetting of course Rosie and Martha ;D I'm gonna do my best to get to Thornton in June ;D A big thanks to all who came , new faces and old. It's a pity Blagdon showed her 'tricky' side but we all like a challenge don't we ( pause whilst shotgun is loaded ;D) C.B
