Ive just finished my most recent project; a super light 6' 2wt. I wanted to use fittings from one of my grand fathers' Hardy greenhearts which meant making a cork grip from scratch. This turned out to be much easier than I thought but for some reason buying cork by the ring is much more expensive . A few of you showed some interest in this project so I thought I'd post some pics. Im on the look out for a tiny Forbes reel to complete the setup, preferably in gold to go with the fittings. J ;D

Nice work. The trim bands are not to my taste, but well executed.

Thanks Dave Its the pale thread isn't it? I thought about how it would look and realised it might be a bit garish, verging on the bling! But then all the fittings are gold so why stop halfway? ;D Its a pale ivory colour so not quite as white as it appears in the photos. Heres a pic of another rod I was building at the same time; more to your taste? J ;D

Yes, that's better.
Off topic slightly, but you have questions on another forum from Fruin and I.

Absoluteley stunning build! As you say, with the gold rings, the ivory wraps seem perfectly reasonable. It hasn't been built as a subtle, low key affair. May I ask how many rods you have built in the past? Also what did you use to write on the blank. Lovely lettering.

Thanks ;D I think this is my seventh rod, I started building at about the end of last season. The way I see it rod building is like fly tying, its the same buzz you get from catching on something youv'e made. Plus if you can tie a fly you can easily build a rod! The lettering on all my rods is done with a Uniball Signo, its easily the best silver pen Iv'e come across. I'd love to say it came out like that first try Johnny

I think I feel the need to build another pretty soon.
