I am building a Sage SLT 8'6" 4 wt rod and I am trying to source an appropriate winding check, something that looks like the ones fitted by Sage, a bit like: Does anyone know of a suitable supplier in the UK? Thanks, Mark

I don't know about a UK supplier, but I have sourced very similar to those pictured from Versitex in the US and had good service with reasonable postage costs. www.versitex.com/versitex/product.html?Id=CKModel ACK aluminum winding check features attractive outer knurling and is available in TiCH, Titanium, or Black anodizing. I tried the TiCH and they look almost identical although darker in colour, the Titanium may be closer. Used one on a 7' 0" 3 wt Pacific Bay Pro Series and it looked pretty neat. Unfortunately they don't provide a picture. Another one to check out is Shoff Tackle: www.shofftackle.com/winding.htmlTry the AWC Gunsmoke finish and click on Larger View. Not sure about the sizes though.

I bought mine from shoff and from hook and hackle.
The ones that hopkins and hollloway carry are too aluminium in colour.

A little more background to JayP’s comment and just to make you all aware. In the New Year the ownership of H&H was transferred and they have moved location. This has only been apparent if you have actually tried dealing with them. Unfortunately the transition has not been a smooth as would have been hoped. I am in the States this week and placed an order last week for delivery to the hotel during my stay. I have arranged this in the past with no problems. Despite assurances H&H have not been able to deliver a $500 order which I have had no option but to cancel. What is really irritating is that they are based out of the same State in which I have been all week. H&H were renowned both for first rate service and great prices. The pricing is still great but the service is suffering. I really hope that this is just a short term issue.
Sorry Jason - we'll get those blanks soon!
All the best,
Ben

Messajoe, Have just checked my spares boxes and found I still have a few of the Pac Bay ACK aluminum in TiCH that I mentioned earlier. Let me know the inside diameter you need and if I have one to fit, you can have it, as I have no immediate need for the ones I have. Sorry for the picture quality, the camera is no good at small close-ups and I'm a lousy photographer
