Ive just finished these multi piece rods & I think ive finally got the hang of these fancy whippings ;D Ones a 7 piece cabellas 8'6 5wt and the others a 7'6 tiger eye 4wt. I've wanted a travel rod for ages and Im pretty chuffed with the cabellas blank, from what little casting Ive done with it so far you could never tell it breaks down to 7 pieces

J, Very nice indeed! I'm presuming these aren't your first attempts at rod building? Whose reel seats are they? Cheers JayP

J Nice work indeed....next time you build another rod come to me for the grip....I can improve on the quality of the ones you used. They are £12 I can also supply reel seats and rings etc if you are stuck. Cheers Mick

J, is the Tiger Eye blank from Northern Tier Outfitters and if so how would you describe the action? Cheers JayP

yup they are. I really like these blanks, Ive built on three of them so far. I would describe the 7'6 as a 4wt verging on 5wt, quite light with a fast-ish middle/tip action. Basicly an ideal chalkstream rod when your not likely to cast much more than fifteen yards. You'll see the real reason why I like these rods when the sun hits them

Really nice looking wraps J. Looks like professional quality from the photos. If you don't mind my asking, how many coats is that on the Cabelas blank and what did you use?
What type of pen did you use for the writing on the Tiger eye blank?
Also, can you post parts/directions for your lego rod turner?
Mike

Cheers The wraps were coated in Flexi-Coat high build, these were the first rods I used it on and the finish just seems to even its self out:) I used two thin coats and just tried to make sure there were no bits of thread poking out. I heated the Flexi Coat on the Tiger Eye blank to get a slightly rounded finish. The pen is a Uniball Signo which seems much better than anything else Ive tried. As for the dryer, its started out a bit sketchy with rubber bands that kept falling off or pulling the blank to one side as it turned: But I sorted this by making it directly driven by the motor, via a worm gear box I found. Me and my brothers managed to accumilate quite a lot of lego when we were younger, I never thought Id have it out again! Johnny ;D

I've done the same with my son's lego technic He has (had) a programmable block which I got him to set up for speed & duration before I commandeered it. Like the use of the freewheels to support the rod, got mine resting on notched foam board at the moment Ian.
