I finally finished epoxying my rod and the epoxy is a bit bulky as I found one coat wasn't enough to totally cover the gold thread crosses that are proud of the blue Is there a trick to get it level or if you have a thread pattern to cover will it tend to bulge like that

Mick Good job...the trick with the butt wrap is to apply another coat until all of the thread is covered, mix the epoxy with 20% thinners which will make it easier to apply, allow it to dry for at least two days in an airing cuboard and then take a block of wood and cover it with fine sandpaper and sand the dried resin down until the finish is level ( this makes it look really scratched ) then apply another layer of epoxy and hey presto the scratches are gone and the finish is perfect....the most fun you can have in rod building ! Cheers Mick

Thanks all
And thanks Mick for the info I actually did do that with the butt section But didn't thin the epoxy
It is actually the ring whips that are bulging more
I guess it is just practice Hopefully the next one will be even better ;D ;D ;D
