Thought you might like this picture of one of yesterday's captures. He was feeding on tiny midge and took a little black f-fly after about 10 minutes of jungle warfare style stalking. Isn't it satisfying when all that effort occasionally pays off! i25.photobucket.com/albums/c93/edenangler/TroutoffBolton.jpgMatt.

That's a great looking fish - very striking marking. Is it wild or a stocked fish?

I can't be 100% sure, but I think it's a native. The Eden system is home to a surprising number of 'variants', markings wise and this golden yellow type is one I only come across occasionally. The water I fish is only lightly stocked and then with 6" fish - and these tend to have the hatchery 'blue spot'.
Thanks for the comments!
Matt

Kev, Matt does actually say in his 2nd post that it's from the Eden. When I was at school, we had regular (week long) field trips to Appleby, and I always remember standing on the bridge with my tongue hanging out watching the trout feeding ! I really must fish the Eden some time.

Yeah it's off the Eden!
Don't get me wrong, I do fish other waters too it's just that there is such a fine variety of water (especially if you factor in the tributaries and small becks in the system), that with my once a week at best fishing time, I rarely have the need to venture elsewhere - if only I had the time!!

Can't say Teifi -I took a quick photo and got him back where he belongs, but I'd say he was towards 1lb8oz - not a massive fish but a fine looking fish nonetheless!
