Well, i had a wander down the river today after id been to the pub for me dinner and i though i would give the water some thrashing. Managed to catch this cracking wild fish on a size 14 hares ear. Its up for the clubs trout of the year comp  The fish weighs an estimated 2lbs and it 46cm (18.2 inches) long  This is the pool it was taken from  Smudge

hi smudge , nice fish , i was out at pagebank yesterday for a few hours . never saw a single fish rise even though there was plenty of insect life on the water . the water was absolutely freezing aswell , even tho it was bright and sunny . i only had 2 knocks all afternoon and managed a little broonie of about 6". i was using spiders at first then changed to a hares ear on the point as i was thinking the cold water and sunshine would be putting them down. whats bishops waters like ? ferryhills has gone downhill this last few seasons in my opinion. myself and marka only had one grayling between us last season , when normally we could get over 30 each every season p.s did it go back ready for me to catch it when its 3lb ;D ;D

Bishops water is shaping up well. Not as many grayling, like you say, but the trout are certainly making up for that. I it never went back mate. If it wasnt the first of the season it would have, but the first legal fish of the season get taken for me Cheers Chris

What's the prices like? And do they do day tickets. Only ask 'cos I make it up there three or four times a year to see the old man who lives in Bishop. We always used to go walking, but he's getting a bit long in the tooth for that now, so I might take the rod up the next time....
