Although more active on the other side, thought you may like an update here Well both Tim ( Chef ) and I were chuffed to be the first pair to fish in Battletrout 2006. We fished at "The Lenches" two lakes totalling around 8 acres set just outside Evesham in Worcestershire. What a smashing place ;D Well kept and well run with a lush lodge and wait for it........real coffee ;D The weather was bloody cold to put it mildly but the intrepid pair battled Noth Easterly winds and blizzards to fish for 5 hours ( After a hearty breakfast.....Cheers Tim ) The result was not really the point of the day in my opinion. Fact was that I got to fish with another forum member who was a bloody great bloke We had an excellent day, made better by the fact that the owner insisted that Tim and I got half our day ticket price refunded as we only fished 5 hours in difficult conditions . A most pleasant surpride these days. I'm sure Tim would agree that we'd both recommend a day at "The Lenches" to anyone. Tima had a nice fit Rainbow on a gold head PTN and I managed two on the dreaded Bobby/ Blob combo ( I'm not proud of it ;D) Thanks to Tim for a great day and a big up for Chris for the whole "Battletrout" concept ;D C.B

today 3lb grayling and myself went head 2 head at linlithgow loch. despite some inclement weather during the week, things were looking better for the matchday. the weather obviously hadn't checked its diary and forgot we were coming. we headed out into the open water and into the teeth of the wind and started drifting at 100mph. just as well jim brought his drouge. fishing in the wind was dangerous for anyone in the vicinity. but wasn't in the least bit dangerous for the fish . not yet anyway. after some drifts with mixed results (good results for the fish, bad for the anglers) jim spotted that the days solitary bank angler had chucked it and decided we should try in a bay near where he was thrashing the water. relief! out of the worst of the wind so we anchored up and started fiddling with some boobies! Jim started to get some interest in his flies but nothing serious. i got one knock. but it was my cast hitting me in the head on the way past!!! jim then leaned into his first fish of the day, only for it to get off. a couple of minutes later i hooked into a massive..................angler. sorry jim. if you get the fly out, just keep it!!! jim kept getting knocks and not just from my casting , before BANG. jim made one of the fish stick! after a few scares at the net, jim boated a cracking 5lb bow. fully finned and full tailed. shortly after i am in again........this time it was my own jacket! i knew i should fish barbless after some more knocks and pulls jim bent into another only for it to spit the hook. with the wind become an easier excuse for my erratic casting we moved into open water nearer the boathouse where jim had spotted some boats holding up. eyesight like an eagle, this man. unfortunately there were to be no more fish. but we had a good blether and a decent day out. most boats were returning one fish or two fish, so its not that we were totally crap at fishing. one angler bagged up his six fish i heard. good luck in the final, jim and the £18 was worth it just to see a 3lb grayling catch a 5lb trout
Wullie.
ps all the best for the lake tomorrow
