Just received information that a good Friend has passed away. I'm keeping it brief but, as far as I'm concerned, the Confederation of English Fly fishers (CEFF) have never been the same since Peter was chairman. This guy was as honest as the day is long and carried the interests of 'all' anglers in his heart and had not his own agenda nor ego. I'll miss him.

That is indeed sad news. I found Peter to be a commited and principled man who's heart was to benefit fly fishing. I will remember the enthusiasm and encouragement he gave me in my competition fly fishing. He is an influence that will be missed.

I will remember the enthusiasm and encouragement he gave me in my competition fly fishing. He is an influence that will be missed. This was a message from another well known 'ex' CEFF rep Patrick Arnold to myself once I passed-on this sad news: "All so sad as Peter was, as you know, such a delightful man - a gentleman and someone who was always prepared to help, advise and when necessary, fight a cause. When doing this he had such great way with words, whether written or spoken. I shall certainly miss him as we always got on so well together. So very, very sad and he will be greatly missed by all of those who knew him. Very hard these days to find someone as trustworthy as Peter".

Patrick forwarded this.....
Peter passed away at 5.45 p.m. on Monday 23rd January, 2006 and Shirley was with him. Shirley's words were "he is at peace now". The Service is at the Exeter Crematorium on Friday 3rd February at 1.00 o'clock. Refreshments afterwards at The Southgate Hotel which is near the Motorway for those who have to travel. Directions will be handed out at the Crematorium. I asked for a contact at The Funeral Directors for those who would like to know more details : Luxton's Funeral Directors, Exeter, tel. no. 01404 812646 and ask for Sue Luxton or Julie Chapman.

Peter loved fly fishing. He recently told me "I owe a great debt of gratatude to flyfishing, it has brought me countless chums and some very close friends" He was very proud of representing England in two sports, the javelin and flyfishing. He was a perfectionist and fiercely competitive but yet was never selfish taking great pleasure in teaching others. Those of us who knew feel a great sense of loss. Bill

Peter's funeral was well attended by many of his friends and family. A moving service which included a handful of fellow 'local' International anglers.
