Have been reading the various threats about SWFF for sea-trout and is something I have wanted to try for ages. Firstly does anyone have any advice on the Clyde Estuary area and secondly is this primarily a sport for the times of year when sea-trout are preparing to run the rivers

Hi Clydebuilt
I am based in Bridge of Weir and would probably give Inverkip a bash...heard the burn mouths were quite productive down there.
Nearest part of the estury to me would be Langbank but appear to be a lot of mad flats to me?
Where abouts do you normally target?

I taregt the coast fom Gourock down to Largs mainly.
The burn mouths in Largs can be very good on a good tide.
As for Inverkip, its not as good as it used to be. Unfortunately, because of the slipway from the Marina, the contours of the roadside beach have been lost and doesnt seem to hold the fish too well.
Further along at the Cloch and Cardwell Bay area will still produce fish though.
The otherside of the Clyde is good at Dumbarton, but you need a River Leven permit to fish this area apparently.
If you have access to a boat, then the sandbanks out of Port Glasgow are brilliant, i sold my boat a few years ago so havent been there for a while.
Try the ususal patterns not forgetting the high falkus sunk lure, stinchar stoat, siler stoat, invicta, teal blue/siler normally on a inter, sometimes Di3 if deepish water or floater and slow polyleader if shallower.

Many thanks...appreciate the advice
Have you tried Meigle Bay at Skelmorlie at all?
Also at what time of year would you start thrashing the water around the estuary?

April is usually when i start having a cast, into June/july it can be excellent.
I have seen a few fish taken between the Xmas/New Year holidays a few years back. All returned by the angler but just shows you.
The Meigle burn mouth is good, sandeel imitations should see you alright there.
The fish tend to be on the broken ground between the bay at the end of the straight right back towards the meigle entrance.
Maybe see you down there for a cast
