I am going to buy a new vice shortly and spend a bit of cash to get something decent. It will need to be able to tie small flies - down into the 20's.
I was wondering about HMH. I want something with a rotary action - although not neccesarily full in-line rotary.
Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated.
Adrian

Dave,
Vises are very personal tools, often linked to one's tying needs and preferences. I am curious enough to ask you is you care to elaborate on your observation.
Thanks, Hans W

AdrianB, You have not given an indication of what you are prepared to spend, which makes giving a recommendation or two a little awkwards. Bruce Salzburg and I have written a text on vices and vice selection you may care to read. Also included are a substantial number of hands-on reviews for vices across a range of price brackets, with our nominees of best vice per price band. You can find the article and the reviews here: flyfisherman.com/ftb/hwvise/I hope you will find the link useful. Cheers, Hans W

HMH are a great vise. My personal favorite. If you don't particularly need a full rotary feature, its a good choice. The Silhouette SX might be a good choice for you, or if you have a bit more to spend, go for the pedestal pro. I have tied thousands on mine from size 24 to 4/0 (Using appropriate jaws) and it still performs like new.
Take a read through Hans' reviews, as he offers some good advise. If you have a chance to try out a few vises, do so, it will make your choice a bit easier.
Cheers
