I've noticed recently when winding hackles that the side i am looking at turns out fine but the opposite side is often not the same. less swept back etc
anyone know what i am or am not doing?

Only two things I can think of that may be causing your problem. 1 Are you stripping a few more fibres off one side of the hackle, If you are right handed and winding clockwise then you should strip more from the right side of the hackle, see the hackle in the Butcher step by step, but don't strip off quite as much as I did (I must have got carried away with that one ) 2 I think the most likely reason, you may be wrapping the thread at a slight angle to the hackle. Also make sure you are sweeping the hackle back evenly as well.

Just thought of another possible explanation. When you are winding the hackle check to see that you are not inadvertently overlapping on the blind side.
