Fished the Test yesterday just North of Whitchurch and the river keeper mentioned that the water level was similar to that of late 1976........
Still fished fantastic - 9 Brown to 2lb, one small Grayling and a Rainbow that tipped the scales at 2 1/2 lb.

Gilly you was not just north of Whitchurch - you was in Whitchurch!
As for the water the river is only slightly down from what I remember last year outside our house but others have said the same recently.

Looked at the Test at Stockbridge this morning and didn`t think it looked a very good colour. A freind who works for the E.A. tells me there is an algea problem with all of the chalk streams at the moment caused by low winter flows from the chalk and rainfall having the effect of changing the normally consistant temperature. The result of this is there are huge shoals of Mullet in all the chalk stream esturies at present having a field day feeding on all the algea. I am not sure if the trout fishing has suffered as a result.
