Can anyone offer advice as to where the grayling are found on the River Isla?
The stretch below Crathie Bridge at Meigle looks good, but much of the river is hemmed in by trees,it doesn't look any easy river to rove

The stretch below crathie bridge did use to hold a fair number of grayling. The isla is fairly overgrown although not too bad at this time of year.I think you would be better trying further away from the bridge[overfished].The dean is also worth a try it joins the isla about 500 yds upstream from crathie bridge.

Thanks for the reply,I suspected the bridge stream would be "well hammered" !!
I suppose the Isla grayling take the same trotted baits as Tay fish,(brandlings, sweetcorn etc)

You need a permit from Strathmore Angling Imrovement Association, costs a tenner + 25p for a map of their stretches
Apparently you can get them in the Spar shop in Coupar Angus and Meigle, also Kate Flemings in Blairgowrie
It takes a bit longer if you get the permit by post from the following address:
Mrs M Milne The Secretary SAIA 2 West Park Road Dundee DD2 1NY Tel:01382 667711
Let me know if you fancy a day on the Isla, two heads(and rods !),might be better than one

Centrepin, a might take you up on that , are you going to the Earn on the 21st ?. Daver was on the Isla today but did not catch anything between three of them . I think they ended up on the Tay, check out his post on the fly tying board under woven buggers . Can any one help me on how to add another thread like the clever lads do ? instead of what i had to do above ?
Cheers Campbell

I have been known to roam the Isla and the dean. My best fish is 2lb 13oz . the main problem s with the river are over fishing and eutrefication. I was stopped one morning by the tay bailiffs who told me that they had seen some of the biggest grayling they had ever come across up some of the spawning burns. The bridge pool on the isla at meigle can be good if the salmon are spawning above it. The best way to tackle the Isla is with 2 cars. park one down at balbrogie and one further upstream then work to wards the downstream car. I,ll be happy to do a guiding /fishing trip if Im not on duty, name some dates and I,ll see what I can do . jim

Certainly get an annual grayling permit for a tenner from Meigle stores (thanks, Magicone for your tips to Rosie) - shame we didn't know they would sell you a map as well. The staff in the shop are pretty clueless with regard to the permits or the fishing, but very nice. Went there on 2nd: bitterly cold, blanked. Lots of salmon on the move, though.
