It is the coldest Spring for decades. My only advice is that I'm finding it hard too, so the thing to do is keep trying. I know what will happen... Suddenly all the flies that have been putting off their eclosions will be unable to wait any longer and there will be a massive quantity all over the place and the fish will go mad. Well I'm hoping so richard

Well the weather forecast for Saturday is fine but Northerly to East winds are expected. Warren has just called and informed me of the renewed presence of St Mark's Fly (small sizes only at this stage). Mrs W is away in Spain. Guess where I'm going in the morning... richard

Lovely Saturday, cold, wet and hard Monday. No sign of Bibio Marcii yet. Lot's of Sport though to Kite's Imperial as the LDO were around from 12:12 until going home time. The Wye is a wonderful river!
Found a nice rainbow under a hanging ash bough, decided he was not for fishing for but for watching through the year. He will be left unmolested by Man. I just hope Nog doesn't get him. Watched him for a good hour on Saturday, in the tail of his overhung back eddy. Almost better than fishing itself. What am I saying? It IS fishing itself... ;D richard

A superb day of fishing on Monday !! ;D I fished the Wye on Monday and had my best day so far. My usual fishing partner was unavailable so I bit the bullet and went out on my own for the first time, armed only with the advice he has given me over the recent months. To cut a long story short I manged 12 grayling, 4 rainbows and a tiny brownie. Double badger did the damage in the morning, before a sustained hatch of LDO made me switch. The wind proved difficult But I left a happy man

Well done Sir. I've put my white gloves in the wash and my 'tails' are pressed. Just need to polish the silver tray and i'll be ready for the next outing. What would one like for lunch , champagne and caviar perhaps!

drfrank Next time you are fishing in a wind like the one we had on Monday try a leader like this: Butt - 2 yards of 22lbs BS monofilament Middle - 2ft of 15lbs BS Maxima Tippet - 1ft to 2ft of 5lbs BS Super Shinobi It will turn over into the teeth of anything up to a gale... richard

Hi Richard
thanks for the information but is a 5lb tippet too heavy for the Wye ? I tend to use a tippet of around 2.5lb.
I would prefer to use something heavier but I don't want to sacrifice presentation.
Frank

I would prefer to use something heavier but I don't want to sacrifice presentation. Frank I use the 5lbs BS Super Shinobi. It is very fine for its strength and on the Wye I rarely use any less, occasionaly going down to 3lbs BS Super Shinobi when using 18's and smaller but in two or three weeks time I will be using 8lbs... richard

I've just learned that two tickets on the Haddon Wye have come available for the 29th May as the anglers have opted to fish on the Duke's Beat that day instead! (Lucky Bees!!!) Their tickets are now up for grabs. www.thepeacockatrowsley.co.uk 01629 733518 Usually these need booking months and months in advance... richard
