Today I fished the River Dever again in the company of 3 others who were my guests.
To say that rain is needed is an understatement. In places even a dry fly snagged the bottom as the levels are that low.
Two brown trout were taken, both on dries. The heat was oppresive with the best part of the day being lunch in the Bullington Arms (with some of their Best Bitter of course + air conditioning) and the Red Wine once we had returned to the fishing hut.
Very unusual to have a bad day there, but like all other thing, it happens.
Imagos/ Sub Imagos seen: Small Spurwing, Large Spurwing, Yellow May and Large Dark Olive. It was just too hot to stay for any Blue Winged Olive hatch which might have occurred later in the evevning.

DEVER

The final tally on The Dever yesterday was 5 Trout and 6 Grayling. The Drunken One had 1 trout, I had 1 trout and 6 grayling and a newcomer had 3 trout.
John was also helping instruct my father most of the day - which could go some way to explain his unusually low catch rate!.
We need rain desperately though, lets keep our fingers crossed.
However, a bad day on the Dever still had 11 fish landed and safely returned and a few lost too. A bad day fishing is better than a good day in the office!
Tight Lines,
Dominic.
